Rotel 1056 - no sound -help please!

Hello all, first post here & it happens to be a request for advice!
I have happily been using my Rotel 1056 for a few years now, but suddenly I have a strange problem.
The unit has been on, and stayed on all day..I was using it earlier.
Just tried to play a CD & nothing! :E
The amp is on, the CD player is connected (via RCA cables).
I tried playing sound from my DVD deck (optical digital in) and no sound either, tuner - no sound!
The amp also will not power off via the remote or the button on the front panel.
I turned it off & on from the back and still I have the same problem.
I am getting concerned. Perhaps a factory reset would help? not sure how to do that.
Otherwise, off for service & I want to avoid that if possible for many reasons.
Can any of you Rotel experts offer me any helpful advice?
I would appreciate it & will owe you a virtual beer.

If you can get into the On Screen Display menus, I think you can reset all the settings from there. Have you tried unplugging it and letting it sit for an hour or so before plugging it back in again?

the OSD does not appear either, & unplugging it for a few hours did not help.
what a bummer...
