    RSP- 1068- audio delay/sound dropout

    Hi all,

My RSP 1068 is still sounding great and continues to wow me every time a I put in a cd or dvd. It does get quite hot as I have seen on a review but that is minor.

My question is when I play a cd and skip to another track via my cd remote, there is approximately a 1 second or maybe even a 1 millisecond delay when the track starts to play. It is coming from my pre/pro as I did not have this with my Denon. Even had a sound dropout during a song too. 8O

Can anyone explain what is going on here and the remedy to fix this issue? Is it a firmware issue? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

What firmware are you at? Hold down mute and let us know. There was an update somewhere that improved digital signal locks.

Basically what's happening is the unit defaults to analog anytime the digital signal is interrupted. Some players drop the digital signal when skipping tracks and such. If you have the option, you can try a different cable (optical or coaxial) then you are currently running.

Thanks Kevin. I called Rotel today and discussed it with them. I need to get the cable which they sell for 7.00 USD. My friend who is a puter expert is going to do the upgrades as Mike at Rotel said to go to the site and follow the instructions. Thanks for your guidance as always.

            Hi Kevin,

I most likely will be doing the update from a laptop. We are going to download all the firmware updates on a disk. I find a lot of laptops nowadays have only a USB port for downloading information. They are the standard. Would it be possible to have a USB to RJ45 to DB9(I think thats the name of the connector) adaptor for updating the software?? I cant find a laptop with a RJ45 to DB9 port. I will be ordering the RJ45 to DB9 cord within a week from Rotel as mine didnt come with the cord.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

You can get a USB to RS232 port adapter. I recommend a keyspan unit, they seem to be most compatible.

So it would be USB to RS232 adapter cable. RS232 to RJ45 Rotel cable.

Any laptop should do. If you knew someone with an old laptop (even windows 95/98) with an RS232 port, you could do it.

Ok Kevin. That is excellent. I already have a friend who is going to lend me his USB to RS232 adaptor, another friend to loan me a laptop, another friend who is going to download the firmware updates onto a disk and do the update for my RSP 1068. All I need to do is purchase the cable from Rotel and I'm all set.

Thanks again for your prompt response concerning this important issue. I truly do appreciate it.

Anybody in the forum who have done the upgrade on their RSP 1068 please share and let me know how it went. Be great to hear from ya.

                  1068 Audio Dropout
                  by RotelNewbie
Anybody have any experience with audio dropout with the Rotel 1068? I was having a frustrating experience with a DVD which had never occurred before with previous gear (or with this unit for that matter), and I thought it was the disc or player, until I switched to an HDTV channel on my cable box and...

                  Hi,

As promised, HERE is V4.0 of the "Wish-list" for the Rotel RSP-1098 (Updated Sunday 7 March 2004).

                  Some key points:
                  • It now incorporates the RSP-1068 and the RSX-1067, with the latest version of firmware for these.
                  • It has been updated to reflect the capabilities

                  RSP-1066 vs 1068 vs 1069
                  by Ted
I'm considering moving from my RSX-1057 (which I love) to separates this year. I'm wondering if there is a big difference sonically between the RSP-1066, 1068, and 1069?

HDMI does not sell it for me, so I'm not too concerned if it does or does not have HDMI compatibility. I have Rotel...

                  RSP 1098/1068 and HDTV
                  by lsolimine
Good day. I am ugrading from my RSP-985, due to its lack of component inputs/output and my television only having one component input, in order to take advantage of Comcast adding HDTV in my area. Has anyone had any problems or issues with either the 1098 or 1068 and HDTV? Thank you.

                  Rotel Rsp 1066 / 1068 Vs Marantz 8200
                  by bleeding ears
                  Hi all,

Can anyone tell me their experience with a Marantz Sr8200 receiver acting as a processor only, compared to the Rotel 1066 or 1068 processors.

I use a Sony TAN9000ES 5 channel amplifier and have no use for the amplifiers in the Marantz receiver. I am not unhappy...
