Improving the sound with a 1068/1075

    Hi All,

For sometime now I have been using a HK AVR5550 (Only 7x75watts) with DVD30 (Only 576p output) to power my B&W 600 Series speakers. I've always found the sound muffled, unclear, not defined and requiring the volume to be turned up quite load to heard voices clearly.

I have the opportunity to pickup a second hand 1068 processor and 1075 power amplifier for a great price! So I was thinking of buying it along with a new DVD player (http://panasonic.com.au/products/det...?objectID=4272) only $199 which provides up scaling to 1080p, now I could go for a bluray, maybe the new Panasonic DMP-BD30 (http://panasonic.com.au/products/det...?objectID=4138) which is about $899 in Aust??

Seeing as my Plasma only supports up to 1080i and the processor doesn't support the latest formats, the STD DVD player should do well? or will I be undercutting the sound?

Also I would imagine the bump up from 75 to 120watts per channel will improve things.

I think you will find the 1068/1075 combo a substantial sonic improvement over the HK. I switched to a 1056/1075 combo from a mid-level Denon receiver, and couldn't be happier. If the price is good - go for it!!

Re the DVD player, might I suggest OPPO? They make an upconverting player, the DV-980H, for $169 which has excellent video and OUTSTANDING audio for anywhere near that money. I just replaced d 3-year old $629 Denon DVD player with the OPPO, and saw a slight video improvenet (better color rendition and gradations, expecially on faces). The audio improvement, however, was what surprised me, especially considering the Denon had a very good rep for audio. The OPPO has more detail and more space around instruments; music is significantly more engaging. You can buy OPPOs direct or thru Amazon.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I myself just made a switch from a Denon 3803 receiver to a RSP 1068. I can attest the differences were huge from my perspective anyways. More clarity, better mid ranges, controlled bass, 2 channel was excellent and movies just leave a grin on your face. Excellent soundstage and depth all around for music and movies.

I bought it used also for a decent price here in Canada. It mates well with my RMB 1095 and RB 1090. I do recommend this combo as you will be one happy camper.

          Thanks,

I found out the amplifier is the all black model, not the silver and black combo.

not sure if I will go for it now....

I have a fair amount of videos with this combo, listen for yourself... I know it's not like being there in person but it might atleast give you a rough idea.

              by cmr15
Well I've decided to go for the 1075/1068 combo with dynaudio speakers... can't wait for them to arrive.

My dealer wanted to sell me cables but I declined. I'd rather get them over the internet.

Could you please tell me what type of connections are used between...

Audio/video delay on oppo DVD player?
              by subynube
Just bought an Oppo DVD 981HD player. I hooked video/audio to TV with HDMI cable, and digital coax audio to my pre/pro.(Emotiva LMC-1 by the way). I am noticing a delay between the audio and video picture. It is slight, but was not there with my last Denon DVD player. I can percieve the delay both...

              Help with 1068, 1075 combo.
              by Philo
I finally got my 1075, 1068 on the weekend and have a few questions about the set-up.
Initially when I hooked it up there was no audio, but realized lata that I didn't have the volume up enough to hear it. I was at about 35db and it was bairly audible, it started getting a fair bit louder in...

What to Buy: Rotel RSX 1067 or 1075/1068 combo
              by basementjack
Has anyone compared the big Rotel 1067 receiver to the 1068 preamp - paired with a 1075 power amp?

              I'm trying to decide between:

              RSX1067- $2100 - 7ch amp, tuner
              RSP1068/1075 - $2500 - 5ch amp, no tuner

the Preamp features are pretty much the same...
