    Can I do this ?

I have a rsx1057 with front channels fed to a rb1080 through the front preouts.I use the 1057 only for music.I also have a Sony str-da4300es for 1.3hdmi and hd audio in a 7.1 configuration for hddvd. All speakers are b&w 600 series.I have a radio shack 4 input 1 output audio vidio switch. As it is set up now I have to disconnect the fronts from the preouts on the Sony and use the preouts on the Rotel for my music and vice a versa which is a pain.My question is.. can I (without harming anything) use the radio shack switch box and put the preouts from the Rotel into the 1st input and the Sony on the second input and run the output to the rb1080 and switch between the 2 without a problem. The fronts are the only speakers that I am using the preouts to.Thanks for any input...good or bad.

Won't be a problem. Just make sure the Radio Shack switch-box doesn't color the sound in any way. You might have to upgrade to a better switch if it does.

Is HD-DVD the only thing you run through the Sony? Might be better off running it's 7.1 outputs to the 7.1 inputs on the 1057. Set the 1057 to redirect it's front amps to the center rears. That way you have everything set up on the Rotel and just use the Sony to process HDDVD sound and the video to you TV.

So there is no problem doing it the way you suggest? Is it safe to go from the 7.1 pre outs on the sony to the multi input on the 1057?And yes the sony is only used for hd-dvd.

Yes you can do the 7.1 outs of the Sony to the INs on the Rotel without any problems.

guess this is what you mean...The RSX-1057 has a “redirect” feature that
allows you to use the front left and front right
amplifier channels to power center back or
Zone 2 speakers. For example, you might
use a separate Rotel stereo power amplifier
to drive the front speakers and then use the
extra amplifier channels in the RSX-1057 to
            power two center back speakers.
Does this mean that it only redirects the front amp and not the preouts?Think I maybe starting to understand. And is this going to give me true hd sound? Thanks.

Correct, this only redirects the internal amps. The front pre-outs of the 1057 would still go to your Rb1080 to run the fronts.

You will have to set the Sony to one volume and leave it there. The volume would now be all from the Rotel. You would basically have the Sony only as a decoder and HDMI 1.3 processor.

Thanks Kevin,I set the volume on the sony after it went into protecetion mode as I had the volume up to +20 which it did not like.It is now set at +5 and I adjust the volume from the Rotel only now.Did not think it would matter as it is not powering any speakers per say and only using the preouts.Or maybe I have something cabled wrong or have a bad cable. But when I set the volume to +5 on the sony I watched all of transformers at 76 volume on the Rotel which was a little loud but had no problems.I am using what ever old rca cables I could find for the interconnects but will be getting new ones this week from monoprice.

                  Hello group,

My amp that I was using to get me by until the new 1068 version comes out later in the year...has a dead left channel...forcing my upgrade issue.
(looked for a blown fuse, but not it)

I had heard 604's blowing amps...and kept the volume at most 25%,...
