    Rsp 1098 Hdmi

I was told by my local dealer that Rotel will be making a HDMI update for the 1098. New component card, he said he thinks they will be replacing the S-Video card with HDMI.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

Yes that is the case. All of the new RSP-1098's now have HDMI (switching only, no audio support) in place of the S-video. There may be an upgrade for existing RSP-1098's after the first of the year, but nothing for sure yet.

Confirmed by my Rotel contact, at the moment the board is only available in new stock models being sold in the USA. The plan to make the boards available as an upgrade to existing units will not be in place until early in the new year.

As already said by hifiguymi: No audio support, switching only

I've got the same info on my side through my Rotel contact.

Available, you need to send your unit in. I believe it's $300-US for the upgrade.

Is there a way I can order and do the upgrade myself? This will keep my down time to a min.... of course unless I screw it up :B

I wonder if they will sell the units to those outside of the USA?

The new board requires hardware modifications to the main unit. You can't just slide the new board in. If you sent your 1098 to the US, I'm sure they would accommodate you.

No, there is no HDMI update for the RSP-1068. The RSP-1098 is somewhat modular in design that allowed Rotel to update it. The RSP-1068 is not like that.

...and for the price, you're better off with the Oppo HDMI switch, it's cheaper and does the same thing.

No offense to Rotel of course on this, but I can't see justifying the price of the modification on something that you can get for a LOT less.

I agree... With out the audio suport it is almost a useless upgrade for me.

If there was something that would decode lossless with out having to buy a receiver or something like that I would upgrade to a PS3 for BR. But, for now I'm sticking with my RSP-1098 connected analog to my BDP-S300...
