    HDCD via Prologic II?

Hello... I've been listening to music with Prologic II - through a RSP-1068 - quite q bit lately, and I was wondering if the HDCD circuit is still active when Prologic II is used. Sometimes it sounds like it is, and sometimes it doesn't. Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks...

No, you can pass the signal through the HDCD decoder by putting it in stereo mode, or you can put it through the Dolby decoder. Not both.

You are aware very few discs have HDCD encoding on them right? It has to be encoded in HDCD to be decoded.

Thanks for the info Kevin. It's a little ironic because one of the reasons I got the 1068 was for the HDCD decoding and now I listen mostly to Prologic II.

I know the disc has to be HDCD encoded. I have quite a few HDCD discs, in fact today I was surprised to find this budget-line reggae disc I was playing today was HDCD encoded when it had no indication that it would be. Makes me wonder if the label even knows.

Interesting. The budget studio might be subbing the mastering out to a larger company that passes everything through an HDCD encoder.

Have you checked the user compiled list of HDCD disc's?

What about using the HDCD output from the CD player directly - then the signal can be modified by any of the soundfields. I dont believe both the processor and the CD player have to be HDCD capable - it only takes one.

Sure, if the player can decode it that would work.

No, I hadn't seen that. Thanks!

Thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try.

                I believe in HDCD
                by rotel&energy
When I first bought my rotel gear, I didn't really believe in HDCD. I had never heard of it and didn't think I could get any better sound w/o moving up to SACD or DVD-A. I realized I had one disc that was HDCD encoded and that was Beck's 'Sea Change'. I played this disc and realized it sounded amazing....

                HDCD Encoded CD's
                by efarstad
Hey gang...listening to some tunes last night and my HDCD encoded CD's took a VERY long time for my 1066 to recognize and play the signal...as long as 15 seconds into the song at some instances. Anyone else having difficulty playing HDCD encoded software?

                Dolby ProLogic - Bit Rate
                by David Meek
I'm finishing up my compilation of bit rates for my DVD's and have a question. Were/are all DVD's encoded in Dolby ProLogic, Dolby 2.0 and mono encoded at 192 BPS?

I know that the DD 5.1/6.1 is encoded at 384 or 448 BPS and DTS is encoded at 754 or 1509 BPS, but I'm not sure about the

                HDCD decoding for Rotel RCD-1070
                by pbarata
As far as I know HDCD is an improved 20 bit encoding method for Audio CD’s. However in Rotel RCD-1070 only a maximum of 18 bits is available internally for conversion. Does it mean that the decoder for HDCD used by Rotel is reducing the strength of bit data to 18 bits? Is RSP-1066 using the same decoder...
