    HDCD decoding for Rotel RCD-1070

As far as I know HDCD is an improved 20 bit encoding method for Audio CD’s. However in Rotel RCD-1070 only a maximum of 18 bits is available internally for conversion. Does it mean that the decoder for HDCD used by Rotel is reducing the strength of bit data to 18 bits? Is RSP-1066 using the same decoder as RCD-1070 for HDCD? Thx.

    Pbarata,

I have experimented with that actual scenario. I have cables in both the analogue and cable outs of the RCD-1070 (different cable brands) 8O.

    The following occurs:

    Analogue Mode:

    1) HDCD on the RCD-1070 is active (not on the the RSP-1066).
    2) Increased db on the lows, decrease db on the mids and highs.

    Cable Mode:

    1) HDCD on the RSP-1066 is active (RSP-1070 also active).
    2) Increased Mids, highs, and decreased lows.
    3) Increase in dynamics.
    4) RSP-1066 sometimes experiences signal delays (2 to 3 secs), going from analogue to optical.

    Conclusion:

I enjoyed the Cable version more due to the increased dynamics (increased the bass +2db on the RSP-1066), however your mileage may vary.

I' ll still need to experiment, (did the cabling provide the difference in the DAC's,etc.).

    Just my thoughts,

    Azeke

Where are you getting the 18 bits from?

      the RCD-1070 has a PCM1732 DAC/HDCD chip which outputs 96khz/24bit.
      normal data for this chip is 16bits, 20bits, or 24bits / 16khz to 96khz
      HDCD are 20bit or 24bit

The RCD-1070 has a max of 24 bits and not 18bits

        Please Advise on RCD1070
        by luszer
        Hi all,

looking for feedback on CD player RCD 1070. I'm considering the 1066 or RSX1055, tossing that debate around in my head for weeks now, teamed up with the RMB 1075. I am pretty much 50% HT and 50% 2 channel music.
Basically, can I use a HT receiver for DD 5.1 and DTS as...

        RCD1070 or RCD1072 ?
        by Stev
        Hi
I have the option of buying a new RCD1070 for about 30% less than a RCD1072. Is there much of a difference between them ? Any problems with the earlier model i should be aware of ? The saleman says ther is little if any audible difference between the two models. Any thoughts would be appreciated....

        I believe in HDCD
        by rotel&energy
When I first bought my rotel gear, I didn't really believe in HDCD. I had never heard of it and didn't think I could get any better sound w/o moving up to SACD or DVD-A. I realized I had one disc that was HDCD encoded and that was Beck's 'Sea Change'. I played this disc and realized it sounded amazing....

connect 1072 in Analogue or Digital In HDCD???
        by chinets
        Hi Everyone,
When you connect a Rotel RCD 1072 which has HDCD and a Rotel Pre/Pro 1098 that has HDCD, does one have to connect the cables through Digital connection or Analogue connection to get the benefit and sound of HDCD?????
The Rotel 1072 does give the red light when one plays HDCD,...
