RSX 1055 with outdoor speakers Question... Help!

I have a RSX 1055 in my living room set up. I would like to run some outdoor speakers to this receiver. I'm running 5.1 right now...

Is there anyway to hook the outdoor speakers up without requiring a new amp? Could I use a speaker selector unit from best buy or radio shack?

Quality is a huge concern inside, however outside really isn't a critical listening environment.

    Anyone else try this??

    What do you think?

    Thanks,

If sound quality is important inside, then you will need another amp for outside. If you were to get a speaker selector that would effect the sound quality. All speaker selectors are is a series of resistors that allow you to hook up multiple speaker pairs to one pair of amps. If you dig a little bit you can find a small Rotel or Adcom amp used that will do the job outside just fine.

Curious, - is sound quality only effected if both pairs of speakers are in use? Both indoor and out on at the same time - using the speaker selector? Or would the sound be ok if only one pair is used at any given time?

      Thanks.

As long as the speaker selector is there it will hurt performance. Some speaker selectors have a defeatable protection circuit that theoretically will not affect sound quality, but they all do. Even the Rotel RSS-900, which has an output that does not go thru the protection circuit at all, still hinders performance. It's a trade off, better sound or convenience.

I am planning to do the same thing but using a 1068, dumb question......but is the zone two a different source or is it same source but in two places (ie living room and patio deck).

Both. Can be same source as main room, - or a different source.

Just remember when you set the second zone up, you have to send it an analog signal for it to work. There are no DAC's for the record out or the second zone out.

Hopefully the next version of the 1068 can accpet digital sources to output to zone 2, a bit of pain that it cant.

I have a RSX-1057, and may add a separate amp down the road. I have no use for a 7.1 set up (my room is not that big), so if I added a 1077, could it serve both as my 5 channel amp for HT and the 2 channel amp for outdoor speakers (or zone 2)? Does that makes sense at all to do it that way?
                    Thanks!

Sure. A better bet would be to use the extra channels on the 1077 to bi-amp your fronts, and the use the re-routing feature of the 1057 to use the internal amps to power the second zone.

                        Folks,

I own a RSX-1055 and I am planning to buy an amplifier (Audio Source AMP100) to power outdoor speakers. I was reading the RSX-1055 manual about zone 2 operation and it confused me a bit. I am looking for some clarification from the experts here. On page 25 in the manual it says:...

I recently purchased a used RSX-1055 and it came with the RR-969 remote. I notice that the RR-1050 has the input selector buttons above the sliding door... I'd like that. Someone over on AudiogoN is offering a straight-up swap of an RR-969 for an RR-1050. Will I be able to take him/her up on this offer?...

I purchased a Sony Grand WEGA KF-50WE 610 LCD Rear Projection HD-Monitor several weeks ago and hooked the same up into my existing home theater system manned by my RSX-1055. I added a Sony HD300 receiver and a Terk-55 outside antenna. Everything worked fine for the first week. Now when I power everything...
