Ref 30 DVD-A Setting

I just got a Sony SCD-C555ES SACD player and have discovered a weird "feature" of the Ref 30. I set the prefered mode in Setup->Inputs->CD to DVD-Audio, speakers to 5, DVD-A to yes. Now when I go the CD input, it switches to the DVDA inputs but the 96/24 light comes on indicating that it's not doing analog bypass. I have to push the DVD-A - 5 buttons to make the light go off. In the setup, when I set it to Direct, it seemed to take the input from the two channel CD input, which did't work because I only had the DVDA connected.

Any ideas?

I figured it out. I have to set pref to the correct number of speakers. If I leave it at 7, it leaves the 96/24 on but if I set it to 5, it goes out.
