New to this forum so be easy on me. I just purchased an HT system consisting of a Rotel RSX-1057 AV receiver, PSB T65 fronts, C60 center, and S50 surrounds. HSU VTF-3 MK3 sub. It has taken me over two years to convince the bride on this endeavor. So, I have been considering the APC H15 power conditioner to protect my investment. I see that APC and Rotel have come together to release the RLC-1040. Everything that I have read, the 1040 is identical to the APC H15 in a different case. Finally, here's my question. I can purchase the APC H15 for $285 but cannot find the 1040 for less than $400. I don't mind paying a little more for a piece of equipment that matches nicely with my 1057 but $100 seems a little much for looks. Am I missing something. I value your opinions. Sorry for being so winded. ;x(
Question on the RLC-1040 conditioner

I also have the RLC-1040. I initially had the Monster HTS-2600 MKII Power Line Conditioner; but, my amp (RMB-1095) didn't play well with it because it would begin to hum. I called Rotel, and they told me that the amp wants a consistent voltage of 115. So, I did an experiment to really see if that was the case. My old line conditioner would show the current voltage. When it dropped to 110 and stayed there for about 30 minutes, the amp would begin to hum. So, I switched out the old line conditioner and got the RLC-1040, and I have not heard the hum since.- Bottom

I had a Panamax 5300 and sold it for the the 1040. I cant really prove this but I feel much safer with the 1040 and thats its actually doing what its supposed to. With the Panamax it seemed to do nothing othan than giving me enough outlets to plug everything in.- Bottom

I cannot account for your feelings but I had a Panamax 5500 and it was very effective in protecting my system from sags and brownouts.Originally posted by PezI had a Panamax 5300 and sold it for the the 1040. I think the best example is when I would lose power. With the Panamax I would always lose the settings in my pre pro (1068). Ever since I got the 1040 I never lose the settings when the power goes out. Plus it matches the rest of my rotel gear.Originally posted by Kal RubinsonI cannot account for your feelings but I had a Panamax 5500 and it was very effective in protecting my system from sags and brownouts.

I do miss the front outlet though, very handy.- Bottom

I was under the impression that it was not a good thing to connect a power amp in a line conditionner ?

You are correct.
It's safety for your amp, vs system sound quality. When the amp needs to draw a lot of current, not being plugged directly into the wall outlet will hamper that. So the gurus say. Mine is plugged directly in. I never did an A/B/A compair though.- Bottom

I've always had my amp plugged into a power conditioner, and have never had any problems (currently an RMB-1075 into an RLC-1040). Once of the main reasons I use the RLC-1040 is to protect my equipment...so what is the point of having one if you're not going to plug in one of your most important pieces of equipment?Brad- Bottom

the Rotel RLC-1040 and RLC-1080 are not current limited...
so plugging amplifiers into them is not an issue...- Bottom

I would say that on older power conditioners that don't have a high current filter you could have an issue...Originally posted by Andrew M Wardthe Rotel RLC-1040 and RLC-1080 are not current limited...

But, the H15 and the RLC-1040 (same thing different box) have a high current filter made specifically for amplifiers...-Joe- Bottom

by MusicMonkeyHopefully a quick question for everybody: I've read here and in other forums that the new RLC-1040 power conditioner/regulator is "based on" the APC H15.
Does anyone know for sure if these two are literally EXACTLY the same on the inside, just that the RLC-1040 has a different...-

by BlazeMasterI looked at the specs on both the RLC1040/1080 and the pictures shows that the RLC1040 has conditioned in/outlet for either phone line or ethernet line. I'm more interested in the conditioning for the ethernet cable, but the specs state that only the RLC1080 has the ability to condition ethernet cables....-

by sskimI have Rotel RLC 1040 power conditioner hooked up to a plasma TV and HT sound system. Over the weekend, while TV was on, I accidently overloaded the circuit using some power tools. After I reset the circuit, I noticed the TV was resetting its system which makes me to think that the TV was shut down...-

by sskimI just picked up RLC1040 this past weekend and got it all hooked up Saturday morning. I have 50" Pioneer plasma, Rotel RSX1057, Rotel RDV1050 and an old VCR. I'm not expecting any improvement in sound or PQ, but just looking for the peace of mind. Not that I've had any power issues but since...-
