are the older D/A converters good?

I have a Rotel RSP-980 and a Sony DVPNS400D dvd player. I am using the digital out from the dvd player to the Rotel so I have a dolby digital signal. Would I get a benefit from using either the RDA-980, or the RDA-975 instead of the D/A converter in the dvd player?
I know this is older equipment but it is for my basement system for my kids.
    Thanks,
    Dan

D/A converters in the RCD-1072 vs D/A converters in receivers or Pre/pros
    by Jeff
I have a love for 2 channel music. However, I also enjoy listening to dvd concerts with my Sony STA-DA777ES receiver. When listening to a concert or a music vidio (which may be included on that dvd) in two channel mode, there is a distinctive superiority of the d/a converters in my rcd-1072. My...

Ok so here is the deal, tuning and learning. Never really 100% on what I’m doing setting some parts of my stereo \ home theater up. Would like to set it up optimally and learn something too. In asking these questions I am very aware of a few things
    1. Many or most specs lie.
    2. Good...

    Multi Input question: RSX-1056
    by MustangJeff
Hopefully this is an easy/simple question to answer.

I'm using a Rotel RSX-1056 for a 7.1 HT setup. My front speakers are connected to a rotel RB-980BX via front pre outs. Since this receiver lacks HDMI, I purchased a Pioneer BDP-05FD blu ray player for it's analog 7.1 outputs and quality...

DVD Player - Older used or new?
    by BretH
I am used to purchasing older equipment used to get the higher end equipment I couldn't afford when new, but this changed for me recently when I bought a digital SLR. The newer cameras were better and cheaper than the ones that came before. Is this the same for DVD players? Will a current < $100...
