    RSX-1056 Video Switching ???

    Hi All:
I have another 1056 setup question for you. Recently my girlfriend found a box of VHS tapes that she wanted reviewed prior to disposal, so I connected the VCR directly to the TV just so she could check out a few of these tapes. Well now she wants the VCR to stay so I thought that I’d hook it up through the receiver to avoid having to switch the TV input every time we use the VCR.

This particular VCR only has a composite out, so I connected it to the #1 composite in on the receiver thinking that its signal would be displayed on my TV through the component mon out. It is not working. What have I overlooked? The audio works but no video. The only way I’ve been able to get the video to display through the receiver is if I connect another composite cable from the receivers composite mon out, then I'm back to switchintg the TV input. Help me I'm feeling stupid.

    Thanks,
    Junk

The conversion process from composite to component is not 100% with VCR's. If the output is not exactly in sync you will not get a conversion. Best bet is to get a better VCR with built in TBC (time-based-correction) or look at adding an external TBC device.

      Kevin,
Thanks for the prompt response. Out of curiosity I tried my PS2 and got the same results, do you think the same thing is happening. I’m starting to wonder if something is wrong with my receiver.

Is their some place that I could go to read up on this (TBC) I’m new to this stuff and now I’m curious. Thanks again.

PS2 should be fine, sounds like something is wrong with the video boards.

        Here's a good link on TBC: http://www.questronix.com.au/info/info_tbc.htm

          Reccomendations on VCR's
          by toychris
I was wondering if any of you could give me a good reccomendation on a VCR. Is there any VCR's with component outputs that are reasonably priced? I am guessing that VCR's Video output is relatively low anyway, so s-video outputs would give about the highest quality of picture, right? I know that JVC...

Suggestion on DVD recorder/ VCR combo
          by hhcan
I am looking for a good decent DVD recorder + VCR combo. I need this unit to record my old VHS tapes. I don't want a recorder that I have to create title every time there is blank space on the tape such as the Panasonic combo. In short, I want to just press a button or two and wait until it's done....

          RSX-1057 Picture blacks out
          by PatAndrae
I have a VCR and a DVD connected to the RSX-1057. I have a 37' component video cable from the receiver to a ceiling mounted projector. The DVD is conected to the receiver via component video cable and the VCR via composite cables. Occasionally, the screen blacks out and takes a few seconds to restore....

          Composite and Component Outs
          by pedalmike
When the RDC-7 outputs a video signal, I assume it has to be the same cable type that is coming in.

For example, I can't have a VCR coming into VIDEO 1 through a composite input, and output it to my display through the Video 1 component outputs...I must use Video 1's composite out...correct?...

          TV/VCR/DVD/Modulator HookUp to RSX-1055

I am new to the HT world. I am planning on purchasing a Rotel RSX-1055 receiver in the next couple of weeks. I have downloaded the owner's manual and see that there are a lot of video inputs/output. Can you explain or send me a diagram of how most of you have your video components (VCR, DVD) and TV...
