RB-993 - reputation of running hot?

Just purchased a used RB-993 amplifier, but have yet to install it and connect it up (hopefully this evening). I've read some older reports that the 993 would run hot during operation. Additionally, I have read a report or two that at some point Rotel may have implemented or made available a bias change to the amp to make it run a little cooler.

Is this fact or myth? I tried looking through the archives here in the forum but didn't find anything peritinent. Anyone know any details on this?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Wow, this post generated a lot of interest

For the few of you that may care, I installed the RB-993 last night and after about an hour of listening, it was warm but not overly hot. Therefore I don't seem to have the issue I thought I would.

You know what they say about worrying, most of what you worry about doesn't come true.

Well, not usr ehow old this thread is.
the 991 and 3 both run hot.
you can lower the bias but that with decrease the power of the amp.
I just left 6" of space abovwe it and run it with the roof off.

This thread seems to treat a problem that does not exist.

My 993 & 991 work fine on all but the warmest days. And lets face it when it is a beautiful sunny day outside who here stays in and listens to music?

They will consistently overheat if left on withou being used. like when you goto bed at night and forget you left you amps on. by morning my hifi stand will be painful to touch and the amps themals will have gone.
Did I mention my hifi stand was wood!

            prolly a fire risk.
