as a right now iam geeting ready to buy rb 1090 which pre amp should i get ???????is rc 1090 worth double of rc 1070?????????????

Where are you located, and have you verified your dealer has a 1090? The RC1090 was discontinued in the US a while ago.

I know The Home Theater Store inHouston/Dallas/austin had some RC-1090 in their warehouse. You may be able to get them to ship you one. Offer 10% below retail.

What does the switch do ? why does the manual say that both balanced and unbalance connections should not be used at the same time ?

I dont post much here, but just want to say I am very very pleased with the Rotel outfit 1080/1090 amp and preamp. And especially now if any one is looking for a very nice two channel system on the cheap this is one of the better ways to go. You may find both at Audiogon if you watch daily.
