    RB 1090/RC 1090 balanced and unbalanced ?

    Hello

I hope someone can answer a couple of questions regarding the RC 1090 and the RB 1090 balanced connection switch...

What does the switch do ? why does the manual say that both balanced and unbalance connections should not be used at the same time ?

I am currently running unbalanced connections from the RC 1090 to an RB 1090 and to a pair of subs....( I happen to like the subs most of the time cuz I'm only using B&W683 mains right now).

I just bought a Benchmark DAC1 usb to play with and benchmark recommends balanced connections (I already read the thread from last year re: balanced vs. unbalanced and rotel...interesting..but I still gotta see...hear for myself).

can I run balanced output from Dac1 to RC1090 input and ubalanced out to RB1090 and subs?
can I run balanced and unbalanced at the same time out of Dac1 directly to RB1090 and subs ?

Ok that should be enough for now...

    Thanks
    Mike

Ps...Id still like to pick up another RB 1090 if anyone knows where one is for sale i'd much appreciate it..

You can run balanced and unbalanced outputs from the DAC 1 at the same time, I think the inputs on the Rotel power amps are unbalanced internaly only so not much if any benefit in balaced conections from the RC-1090 to the RB-1080 or RB-1090 othe than an overall better plug/socket.

      RB 1090's on Audiogon

There are 2 1090's with purported low usage on audiogon now.

By putting the switches in their gear, Rotel ensures that you won't run balanced and single ended at the same time. The switch "should" provide isolation between the circuitry.

In a fully balanced system many claim a much quieter background, and much better dynamics. The mixing as your thinking, can provide convienience if nothing else.

Thanks zmanbands.....I finally got in touch with the seller and I'm going to pick it up this weekend.

Now I have two 1090's ...guess I'm going to have to run another circuit into the house..

I don't know why I just can't just listen to the music...I gotta keep trying different things...kinda expensive just to see how bi-amping sounds...
then I think about the Krell Evolution One that I'd like to get it's not so bad.
but If I keep spending my money I won;t be able to get the Krell..

Thanks for the reply JDH and soundhound..

I already knew about the Rotel not being balanced internally, read somewhere that most inexpensive "audiophile amps" were not fully balanced...so we'll see if there is a sound difference...

but I was looking for a way to bi-amp without a cable splitter... and run cable to 2 subs too.

Benchmark did respond back to my query also, they told me the same thing you stated...but they also added that the levels would be different out of the RCA outputs vs. the XLR outputs.

What happens if you do run both at the same time out of the Rotel..?
the owners manual says that you MUST not use both at the same time...

thanks again..I guess I get to play next week with my new toys..
              hope it sounds good.

The RCA & XLR outputs are set in the factory at different levels, however what I did was change the internal jumper from 20db to 10db and adjusted the external calibration trim pots to fine tune to identical levels.

                    Hello.

I am just about to take delivery of an SVS P2B+ subwoofer.

                    Currently I have a Parasound C2 pre-amp processor.

Connected to it are 7 mackie 624 active speakers.

These are connected to Balanced outputs XLR to XLR connectors.

                    Hi All,

I have a question pertaining to mixing balanced and unbalanced interconnects. My dealer recommends in keeping everything one or the other. (eg all balanced or all unbalanced)

I currently have a Rotel RB-1080 2-channel Amp for my fronts. I've been using for quite...

I've got a question, and I think I know the answer, but what the heck. I have decided to spend some money to move from big box store mediocre equipment to higher end seperates. It's a slow process as I research everything that I possibly can before I buy. I have a Rotel RM-1050 to power the front...
