Rotel 1055 receiver and headphone amp connection

I have done a search here, but somehow the search function doesn't work as I expect - I only seem to get the last entry of a thread, such as "thanks for the information" but can't find the beginning of the thread...

I would like to use my headphones with my Rotel RSX-1055 receiver. I need to know how to connect the amp to the receiver. Do I use the tape out connections, or...? What interconnect needs to be used - some sort of "Y" connector?

Please help a newbie - I really want to use my headphones with the Rotel as my source, during times when I can't use the speakers (when my partner is sleeping, etc.)

The 1055 doesn't have an internal headphone amp. Rotel engineers felt that the inclusion of one would degrade the the overall audio signal so you will need to purchase one and connect it to the record out on the 1055. Do a Google search on "headphone amp" and you'll find out all you need to know. My personal favorites are the ones made by Creek and Grado. Hopefully others will chime in with their favorites as well. Pick one that fits your budget and you'll be back in business.

One related question: why do people advise to use the recording outs? It would seem more logical to me to use zone2 (this would also potentially offer the possiblity to use the remote for volume control). I don't have a can amplifer (although I'll probably get one soon to feed my Sennheisers)

      What am I missing? :?

        Eiffel-

You can use Zone 2, the only reason I didn't mention it is I've never done it that way and I hate to recommend something I haven't tried. Kind of like recommending a restaurant to someone without having tried it yourself first. I think the only difference would be in how you select when you want to listen through headphones only.

You now have an assignment. You have to test this out and report back to the group.

          Professor Skip,

I'd be glad to do the test, but my school supplies do not include a headphone amplifier (I don't even have a tape recorder with a headphone jack these days)

Thanks Skip - I guess I wasn't very clear in my post - I knew I would need a headphone amp to use my headphones with the receiver, just needed to know what connections on the back of the receiver I should use to connect the amp to the receiver. I will be getting a Singlepower tube amp. for my headphone amplifier.

Another (probably stupid ops: ) question. The music will be played from the CD player, so presumably I have to have CD player selected on the receiver. The headphones will be connected, via headphone amp and interconnect cable, to the tape out outputs on the back of the receiver. How do I "inform" the receiver that I want it to play the music through the tape outputs as opposed to through the speakers? :?

              Hi,

I don't have a headphone amp so I may be wrong, but I don't think you can. Usually the headphone amps have a volume control though. So you set the rec-out to source and volume to 0 on your receiver and adjust the volume with the headphone amp.

Please somebody else correct me if I am wrong.

By the way, the zone 2 recommendation might work as well, which would allow the volume to be adjusted using the remote.

              Thanks,
              Maziar

I guess I'll have to experiment - after I get the amp and the interconnect! Thanks for the response, mazuly.

Most tape loops are fixed gain, not volume adjustable with the volume control on your'e reciever.

                      Hi...(again)

I'm actually planning on getting a pair of headphones for my late night listening (live in a condo) and I would like them wireless.

Are they good the wireless? or is there a lot of interference...

And also, can you use a headphone with the RSX-1055??...

Okay so the wife constantly tells you to put on the "cans" so as not to wake her or the kids. I like my headphones but I got a taste of the Dolby Headphone track on Perl Harbour and began my quest for a receiver that incorporated this algorithm. Well I settled on a Panny Digital Amp...but...

I just bought a pair of Sennheiser wireless headphones (RS136 Canadian version of the RS130?).

When I plug it into the headphone socket in the front panel of my C2 I have to turn the volume to near maximum. The headphones have a under modulation light that keeps telling me to turn up...
