    Headphone amp and 1068

    Hi, folks,

My 1068 is just a week-plus old and works fine but for one quirk.
I have a Gilmore Lite headphone amp connected to Video3 out.
It works fine with the CD, tuner (1080, also new), and phono, but
not with the DVD/SACD player. The "play everything" DVD machine
is connected via a single digital cable and the usual six analog cables,
and plays just fine through the speakers. But contrary to the info in
the 1068 Owner's Manual (for example, the discussion of the DEVICE/
INPUT and REC buttons on page 21), signals from the DVD player do
not appear at the Video Out connectors.

I haven't tried Tape Out or Zone 2 Out because I will be using those
later for, well, Tape and Zone 2.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
    Harold

P.S. Hook up and set up were easy. I got the Rotel gear for the
clear labels on the front panel -- they remind me of the old stereo
gear I've used for nearly 45 years now. Very nice surround gear!

For analog out of any input, you need analog in. So you will need an additional two RCA cables going into the 1068 from the stereo outputs of the DVD player.

Also keep in mind that anything going INTO video 3 will never be available OUT of video 3.

In addition, some DVD players do not have separate stereo outputs, or require special setup to enable them in additon to the other outputs. Unfortunately, a lot of DVD players don't support stereo downmixing either, especially with DTS and DVDA signals.

    Good luck!

      Hi, Kevin,

Thanks for the info. The DVD player is a Denon DVD-2200 which
supports downmixing, but it's not clear to me that it is easily
switchable between 2-channel and 6-channel modes. I'll have to
do some digging in the owner's manual, such as it is. Headphone
listening is, in any case, a secondary consideration, only necessary
during episodes of early morning insomnia when everyone else is
      asleep.

        SACD to headphones working!

Closing out this thread on a positive note: Kevin's reply was exactly
right (of course!). I ran another stereo pair between the stereo analog
audio out on the DVD player and Video4 in on the 1068. With Video3
out from the 1068 going to the headphone amp, I only need to push
the 1068's REC button followed by the Video4 button to establish the
link between input and output -- viola! SACD through my phones.

It wasn't exactly a straight path from there to here, of course, and I
have to acknowledge a couple of chats with my dealer, too. And once
I remembered the video cable from the DVD to the 1068, getting to the
DVD's setup screens was a lot easier (duh ...)

Anyhow, happy listener here. Thanks, Kevin!

        Best to all,
        Harold
