    TFT Screen Problem?

    Hi Guys,

I have just recieved my 1098 last week, hooked it all up but the issue i have is with the TFT screen when i turn on the 1098 it takes a while for it to display the picture of the input source. I thought maybe it had to warm up but i said to myself no way it should just turn on straight away. So i don't have any idea what to do in this situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine does the same thing. When you first turn it on it should say "Rotel RSP-1098" or something, that is always scrambled, same with the system status menu that flashes for 5 sec on power up. It seems to have gotten better over the last week or so but it still takes time to "warm up" and I agree it is pathatic. I am not a big fan of the TFT screen. I am going to see if it will get any better as it breaks in.

Supposedly the 1098 kills the 1066 in overall sound quality. I wish theyd make one without the TFT screen, I'd rather get the sound then have to pay for a screen. I'm sure noone agrees with me though

I agree. I'd prefer to have the sonics, not the screen. I know this is an individual decision, but I'd like the same options as the Parasound Halo pre-pros, which sonically are the same I hear, but the one with the screen costs about a thousand more. If they could offer a non-TFT version for four to five hundred less, it would make it a lot more appealing to me personally.

I don't have any tft issues when I turn my 1098 on. It goes through a boot-up process by saying Rotel RSP-1098...without delays or hiccups.

While for some I can understand that if you don't need the tft it'd be nice to not have it, pay less, and retain the sonic beauty of the unit. But for those of us running dvd-a and/or a composite video output from a cd carousel, it's nice to have this wonderful feature vs. having a static picture on my hdtv.

I agree with you. I would much rather have other features, like a tuner & headphone jack, over the tft screen. They could probably add those and also dvi switching for what that tft screen cost. Fire wire would be nice too. They know that those things aren’t going away, and at the rate that they put out products you would think this would have been the one to incorporate some of these other features. Don't get me wrong I picked my 1066 last fall over anything else, but now I am looking at an upgrade that will incorporate some of the above features. I just wish rotel did it now, and not next year. We know where we will be next year; dvi will be common as will fire wire. It would be great for me to bypass a cool screen that I would rarely use, for options that I would use on a regular basis.

The screen should be on more or less straight away (max 3 seconds or so in my unit). The at first turn on it should display some big text with the name and type.

How long does it take in your unit? If its about 10 seconds I suggest contacting your dealers, since there might be something wrong with it.

Hey Tony. I also have that problem and I believe it's just a cold start issue as mine does it for about 5secs then displays fine. Only once did it take over 1 minute but that was 1 day after I purchased it. It's been fine for almost 3 weeks now and it rarely happens now. Give it at least a couple of weeks before you call your dealer.

Mine seems to be clearing up. I have been keeping the system status menu on all the time, hoping this would help it break in. It seems to have worked. After sitting all night it powered up fine with no TFT display problems, this was a first.

                          Dear Rotel enthousiasts,

Yesterday I bought a Pioneer plasma screen to complete my Rotel setup
After concluding all the (required) connections I found out that there's a problem displaying (progressive or not) an 1060 image on the Plasma screen.
                          I really hope...

RSP 1098 TFT Screen Is Useful
                          by gostan
The TFT screen on the 1098 is more than just a pretty face. For the first time I can monitor the various inputs and settings without using my main hd monitor. Also, when I am listening to music I can have the news or weather on the 1098 screen and cut in if I so desire. Anybody else have any thoughts...

                          Hi there,

Does anyone have any concerns with the TFT screen on the 1098?

Mine appears very patchy with light spill around the edges when blank. and compared to my Samsung 18" TFT it seems excessive. When displaying a picture I don't have any issues with the picture...

                          TFT Screen Composite Input Workaround?
                          by Ethek
I just purchased a RSP-1098 and discovered to my dismay, that my DVD player (Sony DVPNS999ES) only outputs to one video connection at a time, i.e. if cables are attached to the component video out (to the monitor) and composite video out (to the RSP), the 999ES defaults to the component only. The other...
