    Opinions on Rotel 1080 & 1067 for 802's?

    First post here ...

    I have a new system on order (still time to change): 802N's for the front, HTM3S center, ASW750 sub, (2) SCM1 surrounds along with (2) Definitive UIW-BPZ/A's (in the ceiling). Power right now is to be a Rotel 1067, coupled with a 1080 for the mains. What are your thoughts? To be honest, the dealer spec'd the Lexicon RV8 but I had to save $ somewhere and this was his next best option. I can return them if I am unhappy but would love some opinions first. Also, it appears that I will have 2 channels left in the 1067 - I don't quite grasp the bi-amping but would this help the center keep up? Is the extra $ for the 850 sub worth it ... the room is pretty big (15 x 30)?
    Thx in advance for your opinions.

    With ASW750 I think you might get away with 1080 on 802N's, but will depend on your required spl level.

    1090 probably best suited for 802's but then with ASW750 you are not going to be short of bass. Do you listen to music including the sub or will you use 802's exclusively ?

    If you use sub with music you will be fine but not achieving best from 802's as you could with a more powerfull amp like a 1090 (which is more suitable if you listen to music without a sub.)

    Rgds Steve.

      Hootlehead,

      The good thing about that amp set-up is its balanced and you will get a big improvement when you can afford to upgrade the amps...

      However if you do a lot of stereo listening - beg / borrow / steal etc the money for the RB-1090 for the 802s now - they really make them sing compared to the 1080 as the extra power helps drive the awkward impdedence / phase load in the bass / midrange...

      PS don't thing about biamping with the RSX-1067 - the amps in it just aren't up to the 1080 or 1090 on the same speakers

        RB-1080 vs. RB-1090

        Hi Everyone;

        I currently own a Rotel system using the 200W RB-1080 amplifier. I am thinking about trading up to the RB-1090. There is nothing wrong with my system (in fact, it sounds very very good), I am just curious to see the effect of basically doubling the amount of power for the...

        Need advice on RC 1090 and RCD 1070
        by Huma
        I want to set up a 2ch system contains RMB 1080 amp, RC 1090 pre-amp and RCD 1070 cd players. The dealer that I used to go doesn't have the pre-amp and cd player for demo. I want to know if anyone has any experience/comment on this system, particularly the pre-amp and cd player. Thank you!
