Five months ago I bought this dvd player and within 3 weeks had to take it back because it audio was dropping briefly. The retailer exchanged it. This evening this model is crapping out again on both DVD-Audio discs and standard CDs.

It will play for 10 or 15 seconds and then drop audio completely. It is making a strange sound internally.

In my 15 year history of electronics I have never experienced such problems..... Does anyone know of any factory defects on this model?

Haven't heard of any mechanical defects with the 1060.. There's some firmware updates out there to fix some DVDA issues though. We should expect more for the price, but for reference I went through 4 DVD players in 3 years before getting my 1040, including a $1200 MSRP Technics model. Unfortunately electronics are getting more and more disposeable these days and it sucks..

Where can I find the firmware for the 1060? I have searched the web but no luck.

Contact Rotel directly. They may want your dealer to perform the upgrade as it can kill the DVDA section if not performed correctly..
