Ok hot of the presses....it'll be on their website as soon as their webmaster gets into the office. there's also a new uploading program to replace HyperTerminal.
This code is ONLY for the 1098's that run the version 2.XX code...if yours has V3 installed DO NOT install this code.

Just a curiousity question here...
But the updates they've done for v2 ...is this just getting it closer to the updates that are already in v3, or are they working on the v3 firmware?
I just don't want to be left out with my v3 firmware.Digital Audio makes me Happy.

OK, just loaded the new firmware and sublte little things like the display turns itself off, delay setup remained the same at .3m increments.
Other than that I cant see anything, but the evening is young and I have a fridge fully stocked with beer.

Dan the V3 code is just a different strain of the same code. The differences are there to deal with the different TFT screens but as always the two should remain in step with each other as far as features go.- Bottom

Hi,
I have a Rotel 1068. Are they doing an update for that. I did download the one above but isan't that just for a 1098?

So if we have a newer 1098 and it has the v3 code, we should download this code to it as well?Scott Goldsmith- Bottom

NO this is only for the V2 1098's...if you own a V3 DO NOT use this code.
There won't be any updates for the 1055 or 1066's from what I've been told.- Bottom

Andrew,
Do you happen to have a list of the upgrades/improvements incorporated in this release?
If my 1098 is doing ok and I don't need the screen to turn off permanently, should I upgrade? Or are they inprovements/streamlining/fixes to the code that are worthwhile anyway?
ThanksJerry Rappaport- Bottom

New Rsp1098
UPS should be dropping my unit off this Monday. Question is my dealer ordered it from Rotel but he stated that the software is running V2.1.3.
I would think that since he ordered it last week that it would have Version 3 on it. should I be upset because it's not version 3? what are the main differences in the screens???- Bottom

Woo,
No worries.. Screen is the same quality and design. A different manufacturer required different screen drivers. Chances are 2.1.7 adds things that even 3.x.X versions don't have yet. I would expect a new 3.X.X download soon to even them up.

I don't know that the new screens are any better...just different model as the old style wasn't available any longer so they had to find a suitable replacement.
I'm note sure what the changes are to be honest...we should see that info up on the Rotel website shortly.- Bottom

SO is Rotel stll shipping the older ones?
It was order last week and my dealer told me the version that came was V2.1.3. I would think all that would ship at this point would be version 3.
Oh well maybe i'm just picking nits. has anyone done a A/B comparison on the screen?- Bottom

Just installed 2.1.7. Managed to use a USB port! Had the hardware specified by my scaler manufacturer:
Changes I've found:
Accelerated volume
PL2x Game mode
Screen sleep mode, and off mode.
Sleep mode is no good for me, since it generates two (more) relay clicks per volume control adjustment. Would have been nice if sleep mode ignored volume changes.
With the screen off, a long press on the remote's OSD button puts it into sleep mode. But how do you get it back to off mode? Other than going back into the menu system...
I have direct buttons for PL2x Music and Cinema. But is there any way to get to PL2x or PL2x Game Mode without:
1 Long press on OSD to get screen into sleep mode
2 SURR+ mode button twice
3 Left or right arrow until mode is found
4 Menu
5 Enter
6 Down
7 Down
8 Down
9 Enter
10 Up
11 Up
12 Up
13 Left... to turn the TFT off again

Just FYI, you must utilize the new terminal software to perform the update. Hyperterminal did not work, at least it didn't for me ops: .
I actually tried Hyperterminal three times, before I realized I should be utilizing the new terminal software, worked the very first time :T .
Just trying to save someone, the unecessary headache and frustration.
BTW, thanks Andrew.

The new MTTY software (disapointed)
I also have harmon kardon the model hk630 they provide a nice
update program complete dummy proof and it only cost one third of
my rotel gear. Harmon also provides two way communication from a PC.
Why can't rotel do the same, I find rotel not very professional
for the money we spend.
and what about that clicking noise on my ExpressVu :M  sigh...... I wonder sometimes- Bottom

Ok What The ^#$@^
The software on Rotel states that V2.1.3 is the latest...
You guys say it's V2.1.7. If this is True what the hell happened inbetween V2.1.3-V2.1.7. I'm Not even talking about V3...
Andrew What are the Rotel Guys telling you will be the latest Version.
I'd like to know before putting in the rack and having to pull it back out to update. :T- Bottom

This update is pathetic, it does not solve the relay clicking when the digital signal is lost for a fraction of a second when I switch channel on my ExpressVu satellite receiver.
I have contacted Rotel suport for that problem long time ago (Feb-2004).
It was supposed to be fixed in the next firmware release. Still not fixed...
I will never buy a Rotel product again. Support is too lame...- Bottom

I am aware that Rotel is a relatively small company and therefore not able to keep up with the complexities of their current equipment. A more responsible company would recognize it's internal shortcomings and subcontract out their coding to a professional organization capable of accomplishing the requirements in a reasonable time frame. Rotel's response and their updates are patheticly slow. By comparison, I recently purchsed a DVD player with an obsure name brand. It was released , had some issues and within just a few weeks most issues that popped up about it on AVS forum were addressed with a software update. By comparison, Rotel issues a software update for the 1098 after nearly two years experience in the field with the units , and the best it offers is ability to turn the screen off and a game mode while some serious operational defects/deficiencies such as the dropouts that we both ( and I'm sure many others) are experiencing are still overlooked! Lame, really lame.
It appears once again that, contrary to all the rhetoric coming out of Rotel's officer's, it's employees and quasi employees and avid Rotel supporters in denial, Rotel really doesn't care very much about it's existing customers.Jerry Rappaport- Bottom

I'd have to agree. The time to allocate resources to firmware udpates is at the beginning of a product's lifecycle. All too soon Rotel will introduce its next products in this area and stop support for these "archived" models all together. If they can't support the products in the field they should not be focused on releasing new products.
If I managed my customers in this fashion I would be fired.

Jerry I've tried to have Rotel contact you about your ongoing issues but since your email address got returned to both myself and Rotel. I'll contact you again and see if we can't work something out regarding them contacting you directly.
As for the rest of us I wouldn't say we're in denial...our products work just fine for us- Bottom

I agree. I have owned Rotel for a long time now and have many differant products. The only flaw I have experienced was the 1050 dvd and the hdcd problem. That's all. Even then, the 1040 or 1060 were fixes to my problem. These Software updates are important but how important are they really? Your equipment works just fine doesn't it? There are only minor things the upgrades remedy.
Having had the hdcd problem and calling rotel for support, I was always called back and thier tech tried to help me on multiple instances. Never called back that day but within a couple days which isn't too reasonable.
I have no complaints and neither does my dealer Audio Consultant's of Chicago who have been around since 59 and carried Rotel since its Rotel's birth.- Bottom

Andrew, I need the v3 firmware, is there any place I can get that from... Mine (I'm guessing because I'm at work) must be on v3.1.0 because I don't even have the DPLII - Game mode on mine, which looks to be v3.1.1
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Originally posted by Andrew PrattV1.1.7 to V1.1.9 - Added Dolby Pro Logic II Game Mode. - Dolby Pro Logic II Emulation changed to Dolby Pro Logic. - Improved volume speed in both main Zone and Zone 2 via remote control. - Added User Default Password feature. - Added Factory Default confirmation screen to the OSD. - Corrected a bug to allow Zone 2 control via RS232 when the main zone is in standby. - Updated 7CH Stereo DSP mode’s center back channel outputs from mono to stereo (requires EPROM flash for this update. If you do not use 7CH stereo this EPROM flash is not required for further updates.)
V1.1.9 to V1.2.1 - Fixed an intermittent problem of units locking into “Standby” mode until the rear panel power toggle was engaged. - Improved digital input sensing and format detection. This improvement fixes any problems with no audio when changing channels with some Scientific Atlanta HD digital cable boxes.
Thanks in advance.
