Switching click, can it break things???

Just curious if anyone has experienced any problems with their Rotel processors, 1098, etc, when it starts switching between Dolby Digital, PLII, DTS, etc? I put in a movie today and it switched to Dobly PL + Digital, or something, then to Dobly Digital, then to Dolby PL again, etc, etc when the scenes changed prior to the menu finally coming up.

All that clicking here and there scares me I'm afraid it's going to break or something. Same goes with the 12 volt triggers, when I was setting them up, picking which ones to be on for which sources, it was clicking on, off, on, off, etc everytime I went to 1+2+3, 1/2, 1+source, etc.

That damn click is a scary noise

Good lord, it's the click of death !!

It's perfectly normal (for the 1098) that it clicks with virtually everything you do so don't worry about it.
Some people find it annoying, some don't.
The majority of the clicking is the output relays which open everytime you change something (crossover, triggers, ...) to make sure no odd noises are sent to the poweramp.

haha, well it's just good to know it can't cause any damage I was just curious, I didn't want it to blow something, I have never had a pre/pro click so much as the 1098, hence my concern. But if you say it's ok, then I will believe you and relax

Believe him and relax...that is one of the 1098s strengths and weaknesses. Most receivers and a lot of pre-pros use electronic switching so you never hear it switch back and forth. The 1098 uses mechanical relays ...so it makes clicking noises. This is much better than my 1066 was that used to pop thru the speakers on mode shift because of its electronic switching. That popping was intended to be inaudible, and to most people with speakers in the 80-90 efficiency range. However, with the RF7s at just over 102 it was clearly audible..and frightening!

          Clicking sound Rotel equipment.
          by >>Angel<<
          Hi guys,

Recently I noticed a clicking sound sound that is coming from one of my Rotel devices. This click randomly occurs in both the active or standy mode. During the active mode I think the click occurs more often, you should think in terms of every 15-25 minutes, but not always. During...

Is this normal, RSP-1098 "Clicking"? and Break in period.
          by eulogytool
I broke down and and bought the 1098 after months of debating and I am very happy.

First question is: What is the normal break in period for a Pre/Amp to reach it's full dynamic potential?

Second question: I have my gear loaded onto one circuit and when my refrigerator...

          A51 is clicking!
          by mikepinkerton
My 4 year old A51 has started intermittently clicking on/off the right-most two blue indicator lights on the front panel. Usually this only happens while watching a movie, I haven't seen (or heard) it during normal TV watching. If I put the same movie into "stereo" mode on my pre/pro, it stops...
