How can Power Failure cause 1065 to lose all settings?

How in the world can this happen. I leave for work at about 7:30 am and leave the plasma and 1065 on so my wife can watch tv during the day. Long story, but I havent got the ir system working yet, so I cant teach her to turn everything on and off yet.

So anyway, I come home from work tonight at about 7:30 and the plasma is on with black screen and the 1065 says Video 1 Video 1 on the OSD. I thought this was strange since I programmed the video input labels a while ago. Then I looked closely and all the settings are gone from the 1065. After some prodding, my wife said she never even went in the family room today, but there was a power failure at about noon today. Other than that, she is not any help.

Setup: 1065 plugged into always on plug on panamax 4300 power protector. So there should have been no surge to cause a problem. Also, I have always had problems with the remote and ir system on the 1065, it just doesnt work 100%. I have a plasma proof ir system, and all my other components work fine with the 1050 Rotel remote. Its so damn frustrating. So the unit may be going back anyway, but I would still like to know if a power failure can cause me to lose all my settings on the 1065?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    E. J.

PS - I cant get it to spit out the firmware version by holding the mute button down on the remote. Frustrating. Thanks again.

Please take this with a grain of salt as I have no technical background in electronics, but I have heard that sensitive electronics are highly vulnerable to power disturbances which might result in things such as automatic resets or the loss of memory.

There was even a thread a while back where a user had major problems with a pre-pro which he thought might have been due to a static electricity discharge through his fingers. You might want to read the thread if you haven't already, so I'll link it here.

This happened to my 1066 shortly after I purchased it. Strange thing is that it hasn't happened since, and there have been plenty of power failures. On the 1066 there is an option in the setup to save your settings as default (or something like that). This way if you lose your settings all you do is recall the defaults and you're good to go. I just figured it was Murphy's law biting me in the butt, because before I saved my settings, I lost them, but since saving them I've never lost them again.

Thanks Guys. THats a great tip to make the settings the default settings.

The 1065 is going back today since the ir receiver or system in the unit never worked right. So I will have a new one tonight.

My 1066 lost all it's settings after a brief power outage the other day.

The saved user defaults were gone as well, but it is possible that I had forgotten to save them after the most recent firmware upgrade.

Has anyone successfully restored their user default settings after losing them?

My 1065 lost all of the FM Presets alfter a power outage. However, all of the video labels and other settings remained intact!

1065 and annoying OSD settings (or lack thereof)
              by ejfiii
Does anyone else find the lack of programmable OSDs annoying with the 1065 and I assume the other units as well? What I mean is this: it sucks you can only have the OSD on or off. I want the volume display and the three speaker quick adjustments available on the TV screen, but not the rest of the OSD...

Rotel RSP-1068 Settings and Configuration Loss When Disconnected From AC
              by weasel
Hi. Don't come here often, but I know where the expertise is. I'm in the process of moving and obviously had to disconnect my system. My question is this: Does the RSP-1068 lose it's settings and configurations when removed from AC power for a period of time? I don't know how long it'll be before I'm...

              LFE over x-over freq discarded for 1066, 1065, & 1055?
              by BleakShore
I'm told that the BM in the 1066, 1065, & 1055 discards the LFE above the crossover frequency. That is, if you set your speakers small, and chose to set the sub crossover freq at, say, 60 Hz, anything above 60 Hz in the LFE channel is simply discarded.

              Now, this doen't sound like...

No sound from DTS soundtrack on 1065
              by ejfiii
I was finally done setting up for the night and wanted to watch a short DTS dvd clip. After selecting DTS on the DVD, the 1065 showed DTS on the front panel, but I got no sound.

              Any settings I am missing?

              Thanks in advance.

              Upgraded 1065 to version 2.24
              by Rob Baker
Hey Guys, first time here. Just had my 1065 upgraded with the larger EPROM and latest software of 2.24. It had 1.1 . I'm not sure if i'm happy with the results. Was wondering if anyone might have has these same issues. First it seems to have some some on panel glitches, second fans kicked in about...
