This only occurs on digital sources such as the cable box and the dvd player. Whenever I change a channel I hear a pop from all speakers. Whenever I switch to DVD input I hear a pop, and whenever the dvd player flips sides I hear the same pop. It's starting to become quite annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to fix it?

ILuvDefTech,
From memory there have been several different reasons for similar problems:
1) Faulty unit which needed repair / replacement
OR
2) Grounding issue with the signal on a Digital Coax into the processor (fixed with mains filters etc) OR by changing to Fibre Optic

First thing i think you should do is the unplug everything except the dvd and see if the problem remains.
I had a similar problem with mine, my problem vanished when i set 1068 as a video-switch, i had a ground issue, and i got the problems when i connected the projector.- Bottom

I experience the same noises. Yes, they are annoying. I believe, however, that they are normal. This is from the troubleshooting section of the RSP-1068 owner's manual:
Clicking or popping sounds when
switching inputs.
• The unit uses relay switching to preserve
maximum sound quality. The mechanical
clicking of the relays is normal.
• During switching, it may take a split second
for digital signals to be recognized
and properly decoded. Rapid repeated
switching between inputs or settings can
result in clicks or pops from the speakers
as the unit attempts to lock on to the rapidly
changing signals. This causes no harm.- Bottom

I'll try what metallo suggests tonight. As far as this being normal, I think that's completely unacceptable. My last unit, a Pioneer Elite model, is worth 1/3 of this Rotel until and it works fine. Also, I took a demo unit home before I purchased a new model and I didn't experience this popping noise at all. I like Rotel and I want to keep my 1068, but if I can't get rid of the noise it's going back. When a very noticable popping noise comes from the speakers each time I change a channel on the cable box, something isn't right.- Bottom

I also noticed this in the 1066 software version upgrade:
V2.25 to V2.26
- Eliminated popping sound heard during DSP and Digital mode transitions.
So the software version, 1.1.7, for the 1068 doesn't include this fix? :M- Bottom

My dealer called Rotel for me. 3 things have been suggested:
1. Make sure I have the most recent version of software which I do.
2. Try a factory reset. I'll try that tonight.
3. If 2 is no good, exchange the unit for another new one.
I hope this works as I really want to keep my 1068  I'll keep everyone posted.- Bottom

I had the same issues with my RSP1066. After exhaustive unplugging and plugging back in interconnects, changing digi cables for toslink, etc, etc., I discovered that the culprit was my powered subwoofer which was attached to a power outlet across the room and not to my Monster HTS3600. There must have been some potential difference in grounds because when I ran an extension cord for the sub to the aforementioned power center the problem went away. The sub load added to all my amps and the sub was to much for the HTS to handle on a long term basis, so I disabled the ground on the sub by removing the ground pin from the power cable. This is not normally a recommended proceedure, but I consider it safe because the sub doesn't have a metal chassis or knobs that are frequently accessed. It's basically set and forget.Jerry Rappaport- Bottom

I have def techs with subs in all 5 speakers, but none of them have a ground plug. I tried disconnecting all of the subs but I still get the pop through the tweeters. My dealer is getting a new unit for me.- Bottom

I get the same popping noise with my 1066 when changing channels on my digital TV box and when changing chapters on my DVD,using digital coax cables.I even get it when I engage the cinema EQ button, it doesn't worry me and it's not there all the time. There is a later software version 2.6 for my 1066 but I don't understand how to do the upgrade, plus after worrying about it initially when I purchased the 1066 it doesn't phase me now.
I have tried a new power filter with no luck so I might try unplugging my M&K Sub and see if that works.- Bottom

Thanks Alex, if I can talk my mate who has a lap top into doing the upgrade I will give it a try. Do you own a 1066 and did the upgrade work!- Bottom

Yup, after I borrowed the cable from my Rotel dealer, I was able to perform the upgrade using the instructions on the Rotel website. Fairly straightforward, just takes a while to actually upload the new firmware. After it was complete, the popping was drastically reduced. The only "gotcha" is to make sure you get the correct firmware. There are two sets of firmware for the 1066. Read the info at the bottom of this page about v1.50 versus v2.26:

by ChrisFinally just finished my HT upgrade (for this month anyway), and I've got the 1066 now w/ the 195 amp and Paradigm Reference all around. Much to my dismay though, I am experiencing the popping sound from my speakers that was mentioned a little bit below. It happens whenever I change any of the settings...-

by rotelnyc2Hey all!
I'm a first time Rotel owner, been eyeing the RSX since the introduction of the 1065. First off, I did find a good amount of info on the hiss/pop issue amongst the threads, but didn't find much info on my questions and issues specifically so I decided to start a new thread,...-

by taimurI've had my RSX1055 receiver for about 10 months, and it's been fine until now. In the last week or so, through the front left speaker, I can hear a very loud popping noise every so often. It sounds like a record being scratched for about 1/4 of a second and then **pop** (real loud!). Sometimes it's...-
