Ways to use the LCD monitor on your C1

This came up in another thread, and I thought it would be useful to hear how people use their screen. The LCD does have its "wow" appeal, but it actually can come in very handy. If I am listening to a DVD-A or SACD, I don't have to turn on my main monitor just to flip through menus--some people may need to wait for their display unit to warm up as well. The LCD can display much more of the Halo option menus all at once. If I'm watching something on my main unit, I can preview/cue/select video to be output to my secondary zone as well without having to interrupt. Similarly, I can use the LCD to cue up another video source and have it ready to play on the main zone (i.e. a movie after a custom theater DVD intro) without interrupting the video already playing on the main zone. Lastly, some people use their LCD screen as security or baby monitors. Definitely useful.

Me, my entire equipment bay is behind closed doors, so it's not viewable from the seating location. So I won't leave it on for security or a baby monitor. But I do use it for the other purposes I mentioned. (and yes, it does have a cool "wow" appeal!!!"

well... let me tell you that I haven't used the TFT on my Rotel 1098 at all for any good usage. The only real use accessing the setup screens, but thats about it. Usually I turn if off fully anyway. In a darkened theatre you definitly do not want the additional glow (or pictures) of the TFT.

So for me, if I would have a choice I would go with just a normal LED display, instead of a big TFT. Unfortunatly Rotel hasn't let us make that choice and I bought the Rotel pre/pro before I upgrades my amps to Parasound.

I got my 1098 hooked up to a Denon 1910. Turning on the DVD player is no problem, with full colour all round and the nice Denon logo on a blue background. Setting up the DVD on the TFT is also in full colour. However, when playing any type of DVD, whether it will be Region 1, 2 or 4, the colour goes...

      RSP 1098 TFT Stretches 4:3
      by btully
Some of my DVDs are 4:3. However, whatever I do, the 1098's TFT display stretches this material the full width of the display. I do, however, get a proper 4:3 ratio from my monitor when I take the composite signal that is feeding the TFT and use it to feed the monitor. Is this something lacking in...

RSP 1098 TFT Screen Is Useful
      by gostan
The TFT screen on the 1098 is more than just a pretty face. For the first time I can monitor the various inputs and settings without using my main hd monitor. Also, when I am listening to music I can have the news or weather on the 1098 screen and cut in if I so desire. Anybody else have any thoughts...

I figured that I'd be holding off on HT purchases for a while until I saw some of the black friday prices on LCD displays.

I got up at 6AM on Friday morning expecting that nobody would be out that early (OK I'm new to black friday shopping) and I saw that there were hundreds of people...
