    HCA 1000 operating temp. question

We have a client we just did a system "re-do" for and we stacked his 5 HCA 1000 amps in the top of an enclosed M/A rack. They are all bridged. B&W 804s for fronts, HTM1 center, N805 rears.

The cabinet maker didnt really design enough airflow capability for the amount of gear in the rack so we are trying to keep the amps cool.

Question 1: Do these amps have a thermal protection device that will turn them off if it gets too hot?

Question 2: Are the B&W speakers (especially the fronts) too much for these amps to handle in bridged mode?

Question 3: In a wide open area, do these amps run hot enough that you cant keep your hand on the faceplate for more than 15 seconds or so?

The client is expecting more than is even possible I think. But we are doing what we can with airflow. I just was wondering what the normal operating temp. of the amps is so I have an idea of how big of a temp. drop we can realistically expect.

    Thanks for any info.

Even if they don't shut off, the elevated temperatures will surely shorten the life of the amps -- or even worse, pose a fire hazard!

Why not add a pair of Parasound Zbreeze or a Middle Atlantic Ultra Quiet Fan Panel or some other innovative cooling solution.

Parasound (HCA Series) vs ATI vs Parasound Halo
      by audioqueso
      Hello Everyone,

Wondering if anyone can comment on any of the matches in the title. My main speakers are B&W 805's matched with a Velodyne SPL-R 800. I've powered my B&Ws with a 2-channel HCA-1500 amp (200 watts) before, and was happy with that match. Then I moved to an HCA-1205A...

HCA 2003 vs HCA 1206 Biamping?
      by Ossi
I currently have a HCA 2003 that I am using since some years already for the front 3 channels in my system. As I us this system for stereo listening as well, I though of going biamping as my speaker offer this approach. So I though of selling die HCA 2003 and buy a HCA 1206.
      From experience...

Buying new HCA-1500a. Halo internals-no bling
      by schafari
Well, I am just about to buy my second HCA-1500a. I have about $1k set aside for one of my room's amps, and I can't see going to the Halo A23, as it would be a step down. Perhaps to some, not visualy, but sonically, I can't imagine the A23 besting the 1500a, especially with Martin Logan Aerius i's....

      Digital Amps - Whatcha Think?
      by David Meek
Another thread got me to pondering the emergence of digital (switching) amplifiers - Class D - into the upper end of the market. I didn't want to hi-jack that thread so I've started this one. Everyone pile on!

Here's a copy of my reply to a post in that earlier thread:...
