OK, guys...I've been waiting for some detailed reviews and impressions on the new software upgrade. While I've seen some comments on an approved sound, I'm not getting a sense of great enthusiasm for anything else. How do the new notch-filters work...and do they make a difference in your room? Does PLIIx give you the WOW factor over DPLII...and how does it improve the presentation when used over DD or DTS? How's the menu and control system work compared to the old one? Was it all worth the wait or did you expect a little more? Thanks.

I'm not using the notch filters, at least not yet. I prefer flat tone controls, but then again, I haven't fully tweaked my setup for room corrections.
As for the DPLIIx, YES YES YES, I'm noticing a very large improvement in audio presentation. I'm leaving DPLIIx on almost all the time now, with THX Cinema equalization. I very, very much like the surround capabilities that it gives. I popped in some THX demo material yesterday, including the popular "Jungle Sounds" that you all know well, and it was AWESOME. On this issue, does anybody know if DPLIIx should be turned off with DD EX or DTS ES material? I haven't tried this out yet.
As mentioned, yes, I'm perceiving an increase of sound CLARITY after the software upgrade, and not just with DPLIIx. Whether this is real or just mentally induced by myself, well, who knows. All I know is that I like it.
Woth the wait? Hmmm... it's been quite a long time coming. Like everybody else, I wish this had come out many months ago. But yeah, I'm glad I have it now at least.

"On this issue, does anybody know if DPLIIx should be turned off with DD EX or DTS ES material?"

I think that is going to depend on your preference. However, unlike DD/EX which technically only derived 3 channels for the rear (the two back being the same signal), PLIIx is actually suppose to derive 4, independent channels of information. And unlike DD/EX which was unpredictable with non-flagged/encoded material, Dobly actually recommends PLIIx for both EX and non-EX material.
Unlike DD/EX and DTS/ES matrix, DTS/ES "discrete" may be a little more complicated since you are really dealing with a 6.1 format. While PLIIx still gives you 4 vs. the 3 with DTS/ES...I'd be interested to hear from others how PLIIx handles that discrete center-rear channel(s) with DTS/ES Discrete material. Does it smear or distract from the author's original presentation...or does it enhance it? I would most likely use it on DTS ES matrix material, while I think it may be more source-dependent on DTS discrete material...depending on how it manipulates the discrete rear.
Thanks for the review.Chris B- Bottom

Oh yes, and I do like the new discrete zone remote control functions. I had built some macros and special remote pages for the zone previously, but they just didn't have the kind of functionality that the new discrete codes have. Much better!
As for the lipsync correction, that's not something that I have a need for currently, but others certainly might!

After The Phanthom Menace used 5.1 EX in theaters there was a spate of releases using the rear channel and even a few DTS 6.1 discrete releases such as Gladiator and The Haunting. lately I haven't seen a thing. Did I invest in a new 6.1 receiver for nothing ? Oh,well, can't complain too much. Even good... -
by Chris CRtI found this on the Anthem forum for their D1 unit, and it appears they just got the DPLIIx upgrade (sigh). It's in "beta" format, but here's the list of what they get in the upgrade:

1. Added Dolby Pro Logic IIx

by Chris DWeird. I downloaded the DPLIIx update to two different computers I own, including the new MXEditor software version. Got through the update okay, following the instructions for both Halo Control and MXEditor. So far so good. I ran the MXEditor program Live Update, which downloaded a rather large...-

by goldearHey guys,
I'd like some of your opinions on the Halo and its implementation of DPLIIx. I'm looking at getting a C1 and I need to know what you think about IIx...and does it have the flexibility that others do, such as being layered onto 5.1DD/DTS or even DDEX and DTSES (Discrete) soundtracks....-

Read a review in I think it ws SGHT of several front runner receivers at less than 1K entry price.
The Denon jumped out at me, supporting 6.1 processing, DTS-Discrete, Neo, even DPL2! I was shocked, here a receiver less than...-
