🙈 ugliest mother***** I have ever seen. I prefer the look of the outgoing 800 series by far.

This Signature Diamond came to my mind too RCD. Not sure how I feel about the new headed ones yet. I would like to see more of the 804 though. I'm kinda liking what I see there. The front baffle looks flatter so maybe the drive units sit more flush."Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today."- Bottom

They still have the HTM1 & HTM2 with DB1 sub.
I like the tweeter housing, the marlan head, and mid. Not a fan of the the way the front woofer stand out or the round plinth. Too soft for me, but maybe it looks better in person. Is the 800 no more?B&W

Very ugly. Even with performance increase I won't be purchasing a pair. Swap to Wilson or Magico if/when the D2 need upgrading.SoundEngine355

Price increase is laughable! They could price them to 100k for all I care, they priced me out on the D2 series. I'm not a fan of the new looks either. When I saw them all I could think of was the signature diamond, which we all know wasn't a good seller or very pleasing to look at.dan87951

Or Nautilus 802's for $8k! The 802D's were $12k when they were first released. I called my friend who owns a B&W franchise and he is disappointed at the price increase. He doesn't expect to sell many. Then again he only sold 1 or 2 802 D/Diamonds a year down from 10 to 12 pairs of Nautilus 802's. There is definitely a sales trend there...dan87951

Seriously, this has gotta be a joke...
2009 - 805s - $2900
2010 - 805D - $5500
2015 - 805D2 - $9000
LOL!!! That's a compound annual growth rate of 21%. To make people notice the 2010 diamond tweeter they had to use a shittier crossover design to purposely bump the upper frequencies! And it's touted as an 'innovation'. What a f***** joke.
Lucky thing however, cause the industry could use some jokes. They'd go a long way to lightening up the humorless group of old, quirky, cultish, nerds complaining about Beats headphones and the death of hifi on the Stereophile forums.
A sure sign of a sunset industry in its death throes? Increasing blame placed on the consumer for being 'uneducated', 'not caring about real music', and (my personal stereophile favourite), 'not being able to listen deeply'. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH best article ever.
Ever been to an audio show lately? Not getting any less gray that's for damn sure. Consumers these days expect Anand quality measurements, and Ars quality tests. If something tests bad and sucks, it doesn't get bought. People these days can't listen deeply? Eff off. Snake oil doesn't sell in the digital age. Especially when the price goes up 21% every year.- Bottom

They should have gotten the original designer (Kenneth grange) whom designed the original Nautilus 800 series to design the new 800 series but not sure if he's still with B&W or has left. I felt they should have retained the iconic yellow Color midrange trademark but use the new continuum material. The 804 n 805 looks ok but the 803 n 802 v3 looks abit odd.- Bottom

The actual retail price for the new 805D3 is $6000, not $9000 (which would be absurd.)

Hi ShadowZA,
You should definitely come to your own conclusions, but my experience so far is that there is not a single area where the new 800 Series isn't hugely improved.

Every single year since 2007, around this exact week of the year, Apple has announced a new iPhone. Materials have been revolutionized. The speed is some 200x faster. The iOS is in a different world than it was. Check out this link if you really want to see how a product is revolutionized (it compares the iPhone 1 to the iPhone 6): http://www.gizmag.com/iphone-1-vs-ip...-6-plus/35856/
And yet the price of the iPhone? It has virtually stayed the same. In some cases, it has gone down.
Many companies continue to innovate without raising prices 50% every time they make an improvement. I wish this were the case here.
I do love B&W though. Only a wish...- Bottom

That happens in the world of computers and software, but not aircraft, cars, tractors, air conditioners, generators, extruders or lastly- loudspeakers. Computers and software revolutionize how we understand, design and to some extent build products (think CNC machines.) However, Moore's Law doesn't extend much further than microprocessors and storage.
All of this being said, I also wish that everything would improve yearly and cost the same!!! Where is my $30,000 Bentley?
Cheers,
Patrick

I have purchased B&w speakers for over 10 years now. I can say it stops here! I own a business and I can't imagine these kinda of price increases . They must think we are idiots! You can come up with whatever reasons you can come up with. The fact is materials do not go up that much and machinery does not cost that much to change set ups. You must be tearing down the whole plant and rebuilding it. Companies ,good companies make changes in all areas and do not double prices! Imagine if car companies did that? There are far more complex areas of technology that do not incur these outrageous hikes in numbers . I was so excited to buy a pair of these. I even sold my 2008 jeep to buy a pair. Not now.To me it is a question of feeling taken advantage of. The numbers do not add up , at least for this poor guy! Best of luck! Think I'll buy some revels! Oh and these are speakers, not a Bentley ! Speakers!- Bottom

This is a BS argument. All of the prices of those goods with the exception of the Bentley rise roughly in pace with inflation, as in their prices are determined approximately by their cost of materials. A Bentley is a luxury good. For luxury goods, ever higher prices are a selling feature for consumers equally important to any data point on a spec sheet.
Obviously, hi fi companies are pricing their products as luxury goods, and where there's a small market of rich boomer nerds who grew up obsessing over hi fi systems, they can get away with it. It's a short game however. A 100KG speaker will never hold the near universal cachet of a Patek Philippe or a Bentley. Eventually these boomers will die and prices will come back down to reality. In the meantime, a bunch of other actually innovative companies like Devialet will have eaten the old boys lunch with active dsp, etc for a fraction of the price. Hifi is a tiny market, so low and mid end disruption is a slow process relative to what people are used to seeing in high tech.- Bottom
