    vintage receiver with 802?

I'm just curious if anyone has tried 802 Diamonds or 802 D's with something like a Mac 4100 receiver or maybe an old 22xx Marantz receiver?

    longgone,

In general, I would not pair any receiver with 802D's or 802Di's. They just need too much current for most receivers.

I have no experience with the products listed. Althought I would think the Mac might be a decent option depending on its power. Mac's certainly can deliver current well.

    Hope this helps.

... ok ... the current issue didn't occur to me. The Mac is 75 Watts into 8 ohm. I was only curious about what it might sound like. Thanks.

        longgone,

A 75 watt Mac receiver will sound better than most. But, even 75 watts from Mac is not what that speaker set needs. I think it would sound decent. But most likely thin on bass, dynamics and soundstage.

I have 802D's. I started with the 5 channel Mac amp @ 200 watts. Very nice performance. Went to a dedicated stereo Mac amp at 250 watts. Very, very nice. Better bass and soundstage. I now have the MC402 on the 802D's. 400 watts per channel and loads of current. 802D's are awesome now.

        Hope this helps.

I owned a Marantz 2275 for many years and even though it was a fine receiver, I don't see it being capable to drive the 800 series.

I've been thinking about some 802 Diamonds for my main system (seperates). I have the McIntosh 4100 (75 watts) and a Marantz 2270 (70 watts) both set up in other areas. I like each of them a lot.

I know the receivers are not a match for 802's but my mind was wandering as to what I would hear if they did ever get to play together. I listened to those 802's a couple of months ago for a couple of days and they were so very nice sounding and looking.

I have a fair size room and when I removed the seperates while I painted, etc., I realized how much space they took up. The receivers sound good, look good, are a change of pace, and are more flexible to locate. I wouldn't expect the receivers to match up with the 802's but I was daydreaming about what the sound would be like.

One of these days I'll try it.

                  McIntosh Receiver with 804N's?

I have a McIntosh 4300V receiver (100 wats per channel into 4 or 8 ohms). It's about 15 years old, and I was wondering whether its amp would be sufficient enough to run a pair of Nautilus 804's. I understand from the threads that the Mac separate amps would work great, but I'm wondering whether this...

Vintage, new, or somewhere in the middle??

I'm just about to finish up some ER18 speakers I'm building. My plan is to put these in my basement for music only. I've been told these are fairly efficient, and can be driven w/ anywhere from 50w/ch up to 150+w/ch (obviously higher is better is what I've been told).

                  My original plan...

                  Vintage B&W's

So I have been thinking about hooking up my old Pioneer Elite receiver to my Mac Mini and possibly using some older B&W's as the speakers (everyone seems to have the newer stuff), I've been thinking about some DM12's or DM110's something inexpensive. Any suggestions?

Went with a group to Stereo Exchange in NYC to hear their wares. And the new 800 series were there.

Let me just say that to all the people complaining about the way the speaker looks with the silver trim, rest assured that it looks very handsome in person. I think the flash on camera's...
