    Bare speaker wire connections

Curious how many of you use bare speaker wire connections and how you deal with wire corrosion. I just replaced my speaker wires using 10 gage 8 foot runs with bare connections to both my amp and speakers and it sounds really good. How often do you think I need to cut back the wire to deal with corrosion?

I had been using 14 gage bi wires with banana plugs prior to this but was concerned about the quality of the connections. Could very well be a placebo affect, but the new wires seem to produce smoother highs. Curious if any of you have had similar experiences.

I'm using a good quality but basic dollar a foot Blue Jeans copper wire.

my logic says that it's only going to corrode where it's not touching, so the connection point should be good.

also, you can clean them with a pencil eraser, you shouldn't need to cut.

Also, I've always heard that the fewer connections the better, so bare wire should win really.

Yes it is called resistance. The less, the better. All those connectors are really just for looks and convenience.

I've heard it said that anything other than bare wire acts as a sort of tone filter.Whereas bare wire avoids this.Any truth to this?

My feeling was the same.....that it should only corrode where its not touching the connection surface, so I won't worry about it. By the way, I went from bi-wired to single large scale wire and didn't hear any loss of sound quality.

Im fairly new to this home audio thing and I was wondering if someone could help me out. Im having trouble with the speaker wire connections on the output of my RB-1070; mainly they seem very loose and are easily pulled out. Quick question......anyone have a preference on how to terminate in wall speaker wire to the back of plates. The plate i have accepts bare wire, banana clips, etc. I can't decide what would be the best. Here is a picture of the back of the plate:

              Hi,

I hace recently purchased the RSX1055 and was wondering about bi-amping to my speakers.

My speakers are Krix Lyrix ( Aussie speakers) and are rated at 89db into 4 ohms. They are a twin bass driver and a soft dome tweeter. Would you recommend biamping?

According to the manual, the power amp requires "dual bannana plugs" Most speaker cables do not come with dual banana connectors, and I am planning (at some point) to bi-amp my speakers. Will regular(single) banana connectors not work for some reason?

I replaced original 803s jumpers with some wire (not expensive Van Den Hull) with silver inside i guess.

I have to tell u that there is such a big difference in sound.. Everything more clear, bass tighter, beter soundstage.. Amazing difference with such a small tweak... If u use original...
