What would match 802D mains as surrounds better, 802N or 805s?

What would match sonically 802D mains as surrounds better, 802N or 805S (not 805n)?

(HTM2D center and JL Audio F113 sub, ssp-800, classe CA-5200)

First for movies and then for 5 channel stereo.

The room is fairly large and open.

Also how close is the Rosenut and red cherry wood colors? Would it match well or stick out?

    Thanks

    nikos,

From a 5 channel perspective, I would say that the N802's would match the front three better. Even though there will be some differences, these will be less than the differences with an 805S.

I've had both rosewood and cherry speakers. The rosewood is fairly dark. The cherry is light to start with but does darken up to a medium cherry after awhile. The medium cherry will stick out less than brand new cherry.

In a dim or dark room, it shouldn't stand out. I have rosewood speakers up front. Until recently, I had nicely aged cherry speakers in the back. My room is fairly dark. The rears really didn't stick out to me.

    Hope this helps.

Definitely the N802. The 805s have a different tweeter, no surroundless midrange (FST), and lack both bass drivers.

If you can swing it, I would get the N802.

The 802N's have a different tweeter. The ONLY speakers to use are 803D's or 802D's. I have 803D as my surrounds and it is a near perfect timbre match for the 802D's. The Diamond tweeter has a unique voice and aluminum just can't sonically sound the same.

Also Rosenut (dark red) and Cherry (natural lighter color) are VERY different in color and wood grain.

This may be the sonic ideal, but it wasn't the question asked.

Not many people have the money or room space for 5 802Ds since you are expressing that they have to be sonically identical. 803Ds are not sonically identical to the 802D (see the endless discussions on this topic) and so where they pan there will be some difference, so accept that often in an HT set-up unless you have unlimited resources some compromise has to be made.

To answer the question asked; of the two, if you have enough breathing room (and you indicate that you do) for the N802 I would go with those, if not the 805S makes for a very good surround if you are not listening to too much multichannel music (many people use this combination). You will have to decide if you want to live with the asthetic difference of the two wood finishes for the N802.

MikeFL52 is correct... I am fully aware of the different tweeter and its a matter of compromise (no funds). Just wanted to see the opinion of how well would the 805S being a newer series would make due for a descent surround and if possibly...be better than a N802... on the high end of the spectrum which alot of surround sound is for HT. Eventually I'll try to make it D all around. Maybe I would be better off just saving the money and running with 3 speakers for now and then upgrade to the D series surrounds, who knows there might even be a 805D by then (side note I hate dipoles)

I have seen the finishes and know the difference, however I have not seen them next to each other or at the same visit for that matter.
The N802 version of the current 802D Rosenut is a RED Cherry. (correct me if I'm wrong) So I was questioning how the Rosenut matches the RED Cherry, not the natural lighter color cherry.

I appreciate everyone's time and input.

I say the 805's due to the low amount (approx 15%) of rear information produced from a movie. Then save your money for some D series, like you said maybe they'll have 805D's by then :-) Just my .02

Center Speaker Question; HTM4S or 805S?
                by sskim
I'm in need of a center speaker to match 805S. Question is what is the best match for 805S? Is there a noticeable difference between HTM4S and HTM2? Since I'm on tight budget does anyone see problem matching HTM2 with 805S? I also read that having three identical speakers for front L/C/R is the...

I hear that ML 432+B&W 802N is a Great Combination!!! Not Sure.

My 6BSST+802N combination is Ok. But, The Brightness & Hollowness is really unbearable at times. I had to reduce the Treble on my Lexicon for that.

                Class CAM 350 vs Bryston 14B ST with B&W 802N - opinion
                by amdan
My local dealer had a couple of Classe CAM 350 monoblocks for sale and was kind enough to allow me to home trial. The only reason I trialed them was the loyal Classe following in this forum. Many of you maintain that Classe and B&W are an excellent match. I have also seen a few posts elsewhere saying...

Looking at purchasing these cabinets to match my B&W's
                by B&W 700 Guy
Next week I will be getting my commission check. My wife is not happy with all of the electronic that are in full view, so, I have been looking at an array of cabinet solutions. I found these Studiotech Cabinets and they seem to be just what the doctor ordered. I have Studiotech stands that have the...

DIY Subwoofer...how to match Red Cherry
                by MikeCarron
OK here's a challenge for you guys. I have the N803 fronts and an HTM1 center all in the older Red Cherry color. They sound wonderful and look gorgeous.

However, I want to construct my own subwoofer, wrap them in cherry veneer, and stain them. Has anybody come up with the magical...
