Either way, you are getting a better speaker with the 802D than with the 803D, and a better sound if you are matching them with identical electronics. Again, whether that difference is "worth it" to you is a whole different argument.
Now if you're asking me whether the 803D paired with Classe or Mac would sound better than the 802D paired with Rotel, THAT would be an interesting question. I wouldn't know the answer, but I wouldn't be surprised if people thought the 803D would be better in that case. I'm not sure you can upgrade your Rotel to a similar Classe with the money you save from buying a 803D, but certainly saving money on the 803Ds would allow you to buy better electronics.
Personally I'm totally satisfied for now with my 802Ds and Rotel 1092. However, I wouldn't rule out in a few years to want to try a different amp, like Classe or what have you, just to try something new and to get more mileage out of my 802Ds. If you feel that you're not going to upgrade to Classe or Macintosh "no matter what", then to me, that's even more reason to purchase the 802Ds as you're purchasing the better speaker of the two and thus eliminating the need to upgrade in the future whatsoever. :T
