    B&W Speaker Size

    Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a RSX-1550 with B&W 683front, HTM62Centre, 685rear. Just wondering what size speakers I should set the Rotel to? I have them set to large and Sub max so that the speakers get the bass as well. Is this correct?

    Thanks T

Small and that way your sub will do the heavy lifting, my 802D are set-up to small

The 685 in the rear and the center should definitely be set to small. You can try setting the 683 to large and set subwoofer crossover to around 40hz. Subwoofers are difficult to fine tune so you may be better off using mostly the 683 for certain kinds of music.

If you use your speakers more for TV or movies then definitely set all speakers to small and let you sub do the heavy lifting.

If you are listening to music then setting the subwoofer crossover to around 80Hz is a good idea because the lowest note on a 4-string bass guitar is 41Hz and a kick drum is about 60Hz.

If you are watching movies then you can set the crossover a lot lower.

FINALLY got my BoseBuster sequel done and written up!! I've shortened the name to BBV2 so I don't get any hassle from Bose. Next I'll be finishing the Scan Disco TM and MTM, the other flavors after. My Soma Sonus site is now hosting my projects. Here is copy of that page:

          Hi Folks,

After a long time away from speaker building (I had a kid), I’m getting back into it. The current project is a quite small speaker, with an internal volume of only 5 liters. I’ll start another thread on the design and goals after things are farther along.

          Hello everyone,

I am new to the board. Clearly there are lots of knowledgable folks here so here goes.

I am not an hi-fi aficionado but bought the following setup about eight years ago (at the behest of a friend). The following equipment has been in a seldom used TV room...

          Small Sub
          by titanif
          Hello,
I have built a small set of full range speakers and I now need a subwoofer for them. It's based on the HiVi B3S and they need a little help from 150hz and lower. Intended use is for light music and TV. Not a full blown, rumbling home theater, just something to replace my crappy TV speakers...

I am not an hi-fi aficionado but bought the following setup about eight years ago (at the behest of a friend). The following equipment has been in a seldom used TV room where we have not really appreciated its capabilities. We occasionally fire up the TV but often do not turn on the other sound components....
