This is no April Fools Joke folks. During the next couple of days, we will be picking a day to migrate HTGuide to a new server. We will have the same reliable service we have always had, as we are not changing Hosting Services, only moving to a new updated state of the art server! Support is working to coordinate things right now.
We will announce the date of migration from old server to the new server in due time. We hope to minimize downtime while the DNS propagates to our new IP address, and service is restored. But some downtime is inevitable.
In fact I will box myself up and come down with them
I would love to visit Down under.
See the biggest baddest spiders, snakes, bugs, whatever's. See the Reefs. I've got someone I work with that has a shop at that famous Surfers beach ?? I forget the name.

Well I'll keep dreaming and you too......
Yeah. I might pop down to surfers for a couple of hours tomorrow arvo. Scrunch some sand between the toes, check out the water temperature.
You keep dreaming of the antipodies and I'll keep dreaming of 800Ds. 8)

Surfers just becomes crazy with tourists/young dickheads all the time. I went for a holiday to hamilton island a while ago, that was nice. Very quiet, warm and relaxing! :B

It was not that way when I started surfing back in the 1960's. We all looked out for one another, and offered help and assistance to those who were just starting out. I started surfing again about 6 years ago, and I was really upset to see that everyone is now just out for themselves, and get pissed when someone new is apparently "invading" their turf.
To me, the ocean is, and should always be a bastion of freedom . . . either while surfing or cruising the open seas.

Sorry I didn't mean surfers as in people, I meant surfers as in a place  . Surfers Paradise is a popular place in Queensland.
Well took a second plunge and picked up a pair of 1201's to power those 800D's
No need to think about whether or not there could be enough power or what could have been...
Was the over/under before he received the 800D's or the end of his first day of ownership? Either way the under's had it and you can now collect on your bets.
Congratulations on your power acquisitions, Misterdoggy!
If you decide to call yourself MadDawg, you'll probably need a deputy. Could I be first choice? I don't need a salary. My "salary" could be in the form of music from your 800D's. And ... it would be tax free. I also don't care what work I have to do so long as such work is office-bound and that I can hear your 800D's from that office.
1201 - is that a Big Mac or a Whopper. Will be interesting to read your thoughts on the new setup.
PS I would have used my computer art skills  to put some blue meters on a hamburger but 1. that might cause offense and 2. I just realised that the olympic soccer is about to start on telly. What with all the cycling and soccer these last few days the hifi has been a little quiet

MadDawg (sorry Bruce the title fits LOL) - Are the 802D's out of the house to make room for the 800D's? A "month" came quickly.
Well I got a call from a guy in Czech Rep who wanted my 802D's which I put up for sale on a whim and thought if I get my price I'll sell, which was $1k more than I paid (bought very well).
So I called my contact in the USA and put $1k the same evening and told him to order me the pair. I thought it would take longer, but the time it took for the guy from Czech to come the speakers were delivered to the dealer.
It took only 5-6 days with Bax as they are coming this morning thursday and only left last friday.
I've only been without the 802D's for a week.
Let me say that the 804S' are no match for the htm1d. When the trifield (3front speakers) is playing the htm1d is just overpowering. It is one outstanding speaker.
I could see a system with just htm1d's. Fantastic Bass... ;x(
MadDawg (It's catching on)... I agree, love the HTM1D bass. Are you running with the ports open or plugged? I received my second JL F113 sub last night... I've got lot's of work to integrate 2 subs into my room. First pass I did not like the sound. But subs take longer to setup/integrate when you go with more than 1... Looking forward to your pictures!
Well the 802D's were not bad and if I had never heard these I would have been happy but.......
Whoa.........Errrrrr.......New Ball Game
I am too busy listening and will let everyone know what I think but first impression is the bass is so deep and rich, its as though I never heard it before...
I am waiting for 1201's and see what happens then will take fotos and report all promise

You bring up an interesting point that I would like to re-iterate from my own previous observations of comparisons between the 802D and 800D.
I believe that the 802D has a better ROI than the 800D. That does not mean that the 800D is not better, I'm just not convinced that for most people, that $9000 MSRP price difference is worth the jump.
Those of you that are able to make the leap to the 800D, certainly are acheiving audio bliss though.
I'm just sittin here watchin the wheels go round and round...

For anyone that puts bass production high on their list (this includes just about everyone) and can afford the entry fee will find the price more than worth it. Many three-ways draw attention to themselves because of crossover distortion and design and acoustic oddities (like resonant signatures) that emanate from the inherent construction of the low frequency drivers and the cabinetry. This can make positioning the speakers so as to disappear difficult if not impossible in domestic settings. Two-ways are much, much easier in this regard. However, the 800D is a master of bass reproduction and nearly trivial to place. Having lived with mine for about two years I find it worth every penny of its asking. The midrange is also a step above the 802D but a little less notable. The 800D gets as close to audio nirvana as one is likely to find but without the considerably higher costs incurred from others.

Amen !! It is true
Audio Nirvana is close at hand ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x( ;x(

You're taking my statement out of context.
"Anyone who puts bass reproduction high on their list" probably can't afford the 800D's. 802D's are probably a stretch for most people. There is a premium to jump up to the 800D's. For those that can afford that jump, then yes, it will pay-off.

I disagree (FUD). I've never had a problem making ANY of my b&w speakers disapear. From 600's up to 800s - and in any of my living environments, dedicated or otherwise. What I've had a problem with was feeling a balance / fullness in the range of audio coming from the speaker. I agree that the 800D has the best balance when it comes to delivery of audio.
BUT, for the cost (meaning not just the cost of the speaker, but also the additional cost of electronics to drive the speaker) the 802d fits nicely.
My comment wasn't a knock to bring the 800D owners out of the wood-work or offend, it was merely a statement of price-to-performance ratio.
I'm just sittin here watchin the wheels go round and round...
I had to toe in the 802D's severely while the 800D's are more open to the front
They are just outstanding right out of the box
The major difference is in the Bass, its night and day with the 802's, anyone says they are close it is not true.
They resonate
Thank you Misterdoggy I have been kicking around the idea of making the upgrade
to the 800D's I just got my CA-M400 mono's they sound real nice .I need to make
a trip to checkout the 800D's. I am looking forward to your pic's.
thanks again.

You see and hear what I meant with better bass on those 800D's, compared with the 802D's, just wait until you have those 1201's and than we'll talk again, you won't believe your ears.
Especially at low level there's a big difference. It's like driving a car with 500HP at 30 miles an hour. You feel (hear) that there's a hugh amount of power available.
Hope seeing some pictures and hearing from you if I was right or not

I don't think so. There is an equal argument to be made at any price point. Afordability aside, the 800D is pound for pound and dollar for dollar the most balanced speaker available from its maker.

Good for you. I would also like to think that a Honda Civic handle's like a Maserati GranTurismo. :W

To a point but the 802D is losing ground on price/performance basis. Since the 802's introduction in 1998 it has increased in price by 75.00% whereas the 800 has only seen an increased of 43.75%. The literal difference amounts to just $1K. If the price increase continues at this pace it won't be long for most people to catch on that the sweet spot is closer to the top echelon in the series and it does not require any more power than the 802D to reach the same SPL.

MD, use this time (waiting for your 1201s) to break-in your speakers. They will get much better than what you are hearing now. I know it's hard to believe, but they will get better.
After I replaced my 803S I found the HTM3S unbearable to listen to along side the towering Marlan headed 800D so I was forced to sell it. I desperately wanted to keep it but no amount of tweaking could appreciably circumvent the prevailing tonal smearing across the obverse sound field.
...
as the title states, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on either a pair of 800Ds or 802D and 2×ASW855s for front duties for a system that is designed for 50% HT and 50% music. The surrounds are 802D and the centre is HTM1D. Amps would be Denon POA-S1 or equivalent....
I'm slowly building up my surround setup and I'm trying to decide whether to go with 802Ds on the rear channels (I currently have 2 already) for the purpose of matching the sound for surround, or moving the 802Ds I have to the real channels and purchasing 800Ds for the front L/R channels. I plan on...
I am a new forum member and this is my first post. I have been a two channel kind of a guy for a long long time and I am about to make the just to a 5.1 system. I plan on adding a HTM1D center channel and two Signature 8NT's for my rear speakers. The existing system includes a pair...
