Getting new 803s and center channel for home theater (5.1). Looking to spend ~5,000 +/- for new electronics (amp and pre/pro). Thinking Rotel, NAD, adcom. Any thoughts from the experts? ;x(

Hi there,
Not sure what prices are where you live, but some principles to go by.
A large part of your sound depends on system synergy, by that I mean how each component goes with the others.
You are buying very good speakers that also deserve pretty good amplification.
Ask your dealer to let you listen with different setups and different makes.
In terms of the pre/pros most of them are quite good, and getting better.
Adcom is very good and reasonably priced, so is Rotel. Nad just won some award with their new Master series.
Don't forget you can get some fantastic deals second hand from audiogon.
What I will reiterate is, make sure you do not skimp on your amplification.
Enjoy,
George.- Bottom

by AngioguyHoping someone might be able to help me out here. Just started upgrading from an average audio setup: Adcom GFA (200 wpc) & GFP-555 preamp and a pr of B&W DM-330's.
Now I have a Pioneer Elite Pro 920 HD plasma TV and recently picked up the Arcam AVR-300 7 channel AV receiver...-

by SiliGooseThis is new to me (may not be to you guys):
http://www.adcom.com/newproducts/gtp860.htm
It's a 7.1 pre/pro with nice looks (for an Adcom). It's selling for $1500.
Anyone seen/heard this unit yet? The website doesn't say much...not even a pic of the back panel....-

by zillaI've gone from the 600 to the 800 series and have a hodge podge of speakers now. I've made the best of it but have hit a wall. This is going to be lengthy but I'll keep it as brief as I can (not one of my gifts) and appreciate the assistance of any who run the gauntlet.
The primary dilemma...-

by AngioguyA few weeks ago, I asked your advice on compatibility of the B&W 803S with the Arcam AVR-300.... Well, I received the 803S (rosenut) just a few days ago, and got 'em set up and running this weekend. What I have is a Pioneer Elite Pro 920 HD Plasma TV, Arcam AVR-300, B&W 803S and B&W HTM-4S...-

by Ryan LibbyI have @$2K for a 5.1 sound setup for 60%HT-40%music, not really interested in other channels. It seems that whether I go pre/pro or receiver, a good 5ch amp addition is the way to go. That will eat much of the $2K, if I do go with an amp.
I would like stay away from used unless someone...-
