    800D speaker cables $$$

i know this topic is on the fringe of B&W speaker related issue and I would like to apologize, but I am not willing to purchase the wrong speaker cables.

I am debating Tara Labs (The One), Nordost, or Audioquest (Kilimanjaro) for my 800D's. Have any members tried/tested these cables or what do you recommend? What are the different characteristics?

    Thanks!

IMHO, don't buy into the cable hype. Get with Lex (Doug at CatCables.com) and have him hook you up with some quality stuff for the $$. My purchase will be coming soon.

This link to a speaker wire article was posted on another forum; you may want to read it before you decide what cables to buy. It was written by Roger Russell who was head of loudspeaker design at McIntosh Labs and founder of McIntosh Loudspeakers.

        DeependX,

They are all good cables. (though you haven't said which Nordost and there as sooooo many models and prices).

Cables evoke passion in some people from "a waste of money" to "lifechanging, critical etc.".

I'm in the value for money school. I try and get cables that are well built and make a difference without too much cost. So I now have lots of Cat Cables... But if you have the money I've heard the high-end Nordost and the Audoquest Kilimanjaro and they are fine cables with scary prices!! Nordost could better the Kilamajaro but the price to do so was just craxy in Aussie $!

It's also important to understand that this forum has some posting guidelines, one of which is about cable discussions (which too often get out of hand due to peoples passion).

You might try PMing Kal Rubson he has the 802Ds, very fine ears and with his role in Stereohile I'm sure some good insights into what works with B&W N high end.

All depends on your system synergy I would think - start with something Ok then if you feel that you are missing something or you want to change something, maybe look at the cables. IMO cables can be used as "tone" controls - and no cable is absolutely better than another in all situations (passed a basic minimum of course)

If you want to play with cables, you will have to decide if you want to bicable, etc.... I didn't have enough courage to play there yet!

I guess I would try the cat cables, unless you already have some oK ones lying around..

Excellent article thank you Ade. I read it just after I had posted some comments on speaker cables to the "NO mention of B&W N801??" thread. I've stored the link for future reference.

you know, typically I'd have blown a gasket at the article with the engineer's perspective "all wire sounds the same". But until I've had time to read the entire thing, I'm going to embrace parts of this as supporting what we do at CAT, more than condemning. Why?

Because first off, we sell value. Our speaker cables even bi-wired are in the sub 500.00 price range for quality constructed cables, not 58000.00. Single stranded wires of 11 gauge, Not 3,000.00 but less than 250. I'll say that even "if" all speaker wire sounds the same, it doesn't mean we dont' number one, want something of substance that looks good, and gives us a solid connection without risk of connectors popping off, or bare wire strands crossing over, etc... That's what we sell at CAT. "affordable quality with Value".

So, I'm going to say, if you want something that looks better than lamp shade cord, may last longer, and give you a sense of buying satisfaction, you may consider CAT Cables.

Geoff can't be wrong all the time, right?

I'm being tempted by the Mac, on my shortlist is the Meridian 808.2i, PS Audio PerfectWave Transport/DAC.

                    To go with the 800D's.

I heard Mac CD players are not that great????? I've heard them with B&W are very impressed.

Long cables - line level vs. speaker???
                    by whoaru99
I see that many high-end companies recommend putting the amps close to the speakers and having longer line level cables versus longer speaker cables.

To me, this seems just backwards. Isn't it more likely that a long line level run has the possibility to degrade the signal more than a...

I'm contemplating upgrading my system with new power cables and would like to know if you think/know if this would improve sound quality.

I own a Rotel system: RCD-1072 CD player, RC-1070 pre amp, RB-1080 amp, with the power cables provided by Rotel, Nordost interconnects, B&W CM-4s,...
