NAD c272 or Rotel RB1080 to drive 805S?

Just purchased a pair of 805S. Want to upgrade slowly. Want to use preamp section of current Marantz SR8000 receiver to connect to new power amp. Considering either NAD c272 reburbished for $500 or demo Rotel RB1080 for $850. I have auditioned the 1080 at home and find the bass to be boomy. I have heard Rotel usually mates well with B&W speakers. I was wondering if anyone used the NAD amp with the B&W 805S. ( I currently own NAD equipment and like it a lot.)

    Thanks.

I used to have the 1080 with 805S speakers. I did not find the bass to be boomy at all. Are your speakers close to the back wall? Perhaps you should try using the included foam plugs. In general I found the 1080 to be a very nice amp. For the price, it did a wonderful job powering the 805S. I personally found that my 805S sounded better when I switched to a Parasound Halo A21 amp but I prefer a slightly warmer sound. I do not have any experience with NAD.

Boomy bass with 805s. Hmmm. Even if you are close to the back wall that is surprising. I added a 100w power amp to my 7300OSE and noticed significant improvements all round, deeper and more punchy bass, far nicer highs and generally more detail to the sound. I found adding a decent power amp is clear improvement over the amps in the receiver. I didn't even bother with A B testing. I just plugged it in and instantly thought "brilliant improvement, this is what has been missing".

No boomy bass. The front of my speakers are 90cm(3ft) from the back wall. I should qualify that I am using 705s but the bass should be in the same ball park. Maybe you should audition the NAD and see how that goes.

        I messed up

pulled the rotel off the rack and notice couple of the banana plugs were loosed. now sounds a lot better. will do some more listening before deciding.
Is $850 too much for a demo Rotel 1080, given blue bk for used is about $575 plus the old fuse problem with the 1080s?

IMO, $850 is too much for a demo model - offer $700. A new one can be had for $900 (10% discount).

            HELP: Boomy bass from Sofa
            by sarsi
I recently replaced my sofa with a new fat and bulky italian leather sofa 2+1+1 into small living room 4x6m. Now I realised that when listening from the sofa there is a very boomy bass from the low frequency instrument such as bass (at a higher volume can even felt it on the sofa armrest). Curiously,...

            Hey guys,

I've been researching power amps for my 2 channel stereo setup. My problem is that here in Australia, it is very hard to audition these amps where I'm based now, so will need to rely more upon reviews/opinions as such to base my decision. Anyway, I have managed to narrow my...
