    40th Aniversary surprise?

We are getting a visit from the B&W distributor for South Africa next week.

Apparently he is coming down to give us some exciting news about a new speaker that is being made to celebrate B&Ws 40th Avniersary which is this year.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

And of course we can't wait for the surprise.

    Hi,

Think 805D (ie the 805 with the diamond tweeter)...

There may be others as well but I know they have this ready to roll...

      Hey Geoff,
For their 40th Anniversary they're doing something much more special than a 805D. Think about it. It's been over 10 years since the "snail" came out. I heard rumour of a large "extreme, high end loudspeaker".Time will tell.Should be pretty cool whatever they come up with. :T

Geoff, I thought the 805D was down played in another thread. Is this hearsay or fact?

Would this have anything to do with the 800 Theater Series they have in the works or something entirely different? It's pretty extreme too.

Rather than a ridiculously expensive speaker, how about a 40% OFF SALE to celebrate?!

Just a rumour though. Not a sure thing.

                Aussie Geoff,

My money would be on a signature series rather than the 805D - just MHO.

                    Claude DD,

I would hate to think of the price for a 2006 model 'snail' let alone the amps to power then as well.

Maybe we should start a letter campaign and let them knoe that 40% is better than a new speaker.

Ya, 40% off the new speaker but full price trade-in, now that would be great

I would be very disappointed if they introduced a very expensive speaker which cost more than the 800D. :M

I hoping for a tigers eye maple cabinet.

40% reduction sounds GREAT! They should consider that considering the 50% increase they're now charging on the 802D when compared to the N802. :bash:

My dealer claimed to have talked to the President of B&W to inquire about the 805Ds because I asked him if they would be releasing some soon, back when that thread was posted here about them. He said that the president of B&W said absolutely not in the next year because there did not seem to be sufficient demand for them in the market according to their research.

I hope they release 805Ds, but if they do, I'm never using that dealer again... LOL

I'm surprised by that. I was under the impression the older Signature 805 were very well thought of. On the used market they have demanded a very nice price, provided you can find any for sale.

based on a healthy dose of wishful thinking and absolutely no evidence whatsoever, i think it will be a signature series of the current 800D or a new prestige model

Only got to hear yesterday, but the "NEW" speaker is the XT4 and XT2 whic are a tall aluminium cased speaker with a nautilus tweeter on top.

Probably not new to some of you but at the arse end of the world where we live - it's new to us.

Didn't sound to bad either, but only had a Marantz front end so could problably sound better with quality front end.

They finally posted the CT800 products on the website. Maybe that is their big hoorah! Even though announced last year, it seems like they are moving forward with this very expensive theater system.

There web site doesn't say anything about it be an anniversary edition

You'd figure with it not being very exciting in and of itself, they would try to fluff it up on their web site by saying that it was special in some way.

Maybe it's a matching center channel for the 703?

I sure hope this isn't the 40th Anniversary surprise we've been looking forward to!

                                                          From the latest HiFi+ magazine....

                                                          Win limited edition B&W DM600 S3 loudspeakers

2006 marks B&W’s 40th Anniversary in the hi-fi business, a long history that has included more than its fair share of technological innovations and highlights. From the seminal DM70, through the original Nautilus ”Snail” to the N800D of today, the company has produced some of the most novel, creative and singular designs ever presented to the hi-fi buying public. And buy them they did. Unlike some technology demonstrator type projects, each of these has been a commercial success, each a serious product proposition that has pushed the barriers of the performance envelope, each a statement of intent that has spawned new fashions and new styles.

So perhaps it’s not suprising that, in looking for a suitable way in which to mark and celebrate their 40th year in business, B&W should turn to Blue Note records. Blue Note represents one of the most successful, progressive, independent and above all stylistically innovative jazz labels out there. The strikingly original and instantly identifiable graphic style they established for their cover art has become iconic, an essential aspect in the public perception of jazz and jazz musicians. Whether you know and love jazz or not, you cannot be unaware of those duo-tone images of players and instruments, side-lit in reflective mood that seem to conjure up the smokey darkness of the live venues and performances so central to the genre. Those pictures in some cases outlived the albums they graced, taking on an importance and existence all their own.

And while you might not be aware of it, you’ll also not be surprised to discover that Blue Note covers have formed the inspiration for Hi-Fi+’s cover art since Issue 41: Such strong graphics, inextricably woven into the musical fabric are an irresistible combination. So, when we learn’t that B&W were planning to reward their international distributors’ loyalty with a limited edition of 125 pairs of DM 600 S3 loudspeakers, decorated with Blue Note sleeve art, and personalised to each recipient, we just had to get our hands on a pair, along with the beautiful Calendar that goes alongside them.

But therein also lies the problem. Here is a prize beyond price; you can’t buy these speakers and they’ll never be made again, so I’d hate to see them turning up on ebay. You can’t buy the calendars either. Which means that whoever wins them needs to appreciate just what they represent, so no giveaways. You’ll actually have to work a bit in order to lay your hands on these prizes and answer the questions available on page 44 of issue 43:

We have one pair of speakers to give away, which will be personalised with the appropriate engraved plate carrying the name of the winner, and three calendars for runners-up. The competition is open to anybody who doesn’t work for B&W or AMI, and closes on April 14th, so entries must reach us by then.

You must include your name, address and phone number along with your three answers, and these can be submitted in the following ways:

The dealer from which I bought my 804S ,called me the other day & told me he had a gift for me... It was that B&W/blue note calendar! It has great blue note covers & on every month are marked the dates that international hifi shows will take place
