Yes, 7000 cubic feet is probably a bit too large. (That's almost 200 square meters, that's a friggin' ballroom).
Here's a pic of my speakers in their normal surroundings. Unfortunately the room really sucks, it is highly reflective and accentuates bass around 60-100hz a LOT. Even the very good RoomEQ on my HK amp can only do so much to equalize out the problems. (It doesn't remove the bass amplification for one thing). I'm moving somewhere else next summer, so hopefully I'll have an apartment with a livingroom that is better suited to music and HT.
Pictures aren't that great, they were taken in very low light. (It was overcast and darkish outside).

Then, go out and find a decorative throw rug you really like in let's say 1.5x2m and hang it on the wall behind the couch. Rug places sell track and clips to do so.
Then get some cheap curtains for all that glass.Jerry Rappaport- Bottom

I've also considered a rug on the floor, but haven't been able to find one I like - it would do wonders, I'm sure. As it is, you can hear a sharp report when you clap your hands in the room - not quite an echo, but almost.
I've considered doing something artistic for the wall with a piece of black material folded into a wavy construct, but I also really want to hang a Carl Barks painting there.
Anyway, I'll find a solution, and I'll be moving sometime during summer next year anyway, and my next appartment will have curtains and stuff to break up sound.
GregLett: Thanks.

OK, I just now (20 mins) ago got the XTs set up in the room that they were bought for and I must say that some, but not all, of my objections to this jewel have gone. I realized that asking them to fill a 7000+ cu ft room was cruel and unusual punishment. In my 16 x 13 study/library, all that wonderful bottom end that people talk about ( and I heard at the dealer) is finally there. They now have a much better sense of immediacy and dynamics then before. I'm still not real happy with the top end, they sound, well, like a speaker, they don't dissapear.
I'm very pleased with the overall setup. My Shanling CD 100T is playing directly into a Rotel 1080 that powers the XTs. No preamp as the Shanling has a built in volume control. The whole setup has hidden wiring (I've been bustin my axx for the past week wiring) and the 1080 is actually hidden in a cabinet. It's all very very slick. The whole room is still very pulled apart so I won't have pics for a day or so.Jerry Rappaport- Bottom

I agree with the tweeter. I did notice that it was not as extended on certain tracks like my pinnacles. They do disappear for me however, but hell the overall performance is exvellent.
I wonly be listening for the rest of the year because i'm in Jamaica typing this on my handheld.
Can you hear the waves???Greg- Bottom

With NuForce Amp
I'm now running my XT4s in my study/library with NuForce Ref9s. It seems these amps did the trick in solving the high end clarity issues of the XT4s while at the same time cleaning up the bottom end nicely. I didn't even realize there was a problem on the bottom till I started listening with the new amps.Last edited by DrJRapp; 11 January 2006, 03:43 Wednesday.Jerry Rappaport- Bottom
