Matrix 804 vs the new 704

I really love my Matrix 804's (I have a pair of DM640's too) but they are about 15 years old now. Is there a big sound improvement with the new 600 series or 704 speakers. I want to know if it is worth the investment before I take the plunge. Thank You.

Do not understand your question. Do you have 804s? What speakers are 15 years old? Assuming your 804s are 15 years old, you should shoot for the newer 800 series and not the cheaper lines if you want to get better sound than you have now.

Technology has improved considerably since the Matrix series and I think the 704's will be a worthwhile improvement over your Matrix 804...

Is there a way to audition some 704s in your home? Or maybe the dealer would let you bring your Matrix 804s and compare them side by side. That would be a sure way to decide which you like better.

Well, I like my Matrix 801 much more than my CDM 9NT"s.

              704 / 703 / 804S comparison
              by csuzor
I spent some time comparing 704 / 703 / 804S during a serious listening session. I was looking to either buy the 703 (and use my 704 as surrounds), or an amp (I drove home with the RSP1068 + RMB1075, see post Rotel section). My results:

704: familiar sound, but in this context a little...

704 is just not there - upgrades?
              by olddude
I just responded to a thread by ssalvari and told him that the 704's are a fine loudspeaker and assured him that the 704's are not muddy, bloomy or lacking in the mids - a decent all-arounder, although they are more laid back than the 703's.
With that said, I must admit that, for my ears, the...

Worth it? B&W 804S Side Surround???
              by owl1
I have a desire to go to a 7.2 setup with currently comprising 803S mains HTM3S center and SCMS rear surrounds as well as a velodyne DD15 sub and Cambridge soundworks sub. I just picked up over Christmas holiday the Pioneer Elite Rcvr 94 and BD95 Elite Bluray disc player so I can hear the latest surround...

Repair question - 804 Matrix near St Louis MO
              by rkburton
Finally got around to hooking up my rear (804 Matrix) and surrounds (805 Matrix) - 2 months after purchase (yes, eBay - no FLAMING please).
Now I'm beating myself up for not having checked the 804s when I got them - one of them barely makes any noise at all.
              I'm pretty resolved to try...
