These are more Classe-ish pictures I took after making some changes and adding a new SSP, but the FPMs and PV1s are still there. Next its either 805s or CM9s.

have you ever compared with Rotel amplifier traditional and D class Amplifier
Not directly. However, I do have a Rotel 1085 powering my rear speakers. Just for fun I compared the 1085 vs. the Bel Canto amp. To be honest I could not really tell a big difference. I kept the Bel Canto in my setup just so that I do not need to turn on the Rotel 1069 when I am listening to CD or iTunes.

There are plenty of people on this forum who have compared the traditional Rotel amp vs. its class D version, so I will defer to their wisdom on this subject.

Like the changes Vancouver! That's some killer gear. I remember first seeing your setup over on the AVS XBox owners page.

How do you like the Apple TV? I just picked one up myself. Can't beat the simplicity.
Would you consider XT8s over the larger footprints of the CM9s and 805?
A pair in gloss black would look sweet for your setup but I'm XT biased

          cheers

            thanks for the comments..

Apple TV is the best valued HT addition available IMO. Streaming music, SD DVDs, renting when the BD isnt available.

I havent heard the XT8s so i cant really comment. I remember reading that the last XT series only really shinned when the volume was up high and lost quality at lower levels. This isnt ideal for me since most of my listening is lower to moderate levels.

What are your impressions of them at lower-medium levels?

Genuinely, I think I have gone through the entire thread at least twice, loving everyones pics just as much, and it has been my inspiration!! :T

So much so I think I now blame you all for me being skint and at risk of divorce :B

Here is my modest current set up to add to this superb gallery. You'll have to excuse my shoddy camera and photography skills, and also the exposed cabling. I have been doing quite a few demos this year and have not had the time to do anything permanant.

                              Kit is:

B&W605S2, CDM CNT, 601S2, Sunfire HRS 12, Rotel 1570, Rotel 1575, Denon 3800BD, Cyrus CD8, PS3, Sky HD, Pioneer 5090, Stands Unique Racks, Chord Odyssey, Rumour and Chorus cabling, Nordost Shiva, Harmony One, Dedicated Mains Spur to x2 outlets, each outlet has x8 unswitched M&K sockets.

Any comments or criticisms graciously accepted.

                              Thanks for looking.

                                        Thank guys!

I will take some more pics asap of kit and rack.

The CDM mates very well with the 605's, but I do not listen to multichannel much, so it may be more noticeable there?

Ive come away from a cyrus AV8, which as you may or may not know is a music first, av second processor. The Rotel killed it immediately for both AV and 2ch.

The Rotel 1575 is/was no problem to power my current set up, and the 605's were the easiest to drive as they have active bass, so the amp only need to power midrange and treble.

However, I now have 803D's and 805S rears (HTM3S on order) and the amp is clipping into safe mode frequently at approx the same volume when pushed with the 600 package?

Im not sure what to do there?

This was my old setup; it's been in storage since the move, though I made sure to get storage/packing instructions from my B&W dealer first (They're perfectly safe and snug in their original packaging). Gear includes:

                                          Yamaha Subwoofer
B&W 684 Speakers for my Fronts, and Sony Satellites/Center for the remaining three channels

Yes, I know pairing B&W speakers with Sony HTiB Satellites is a travesty, but I bought those things on a $10/hr paycheck at the time (still lived at home); took me four months of saving up, but it was the best money I'd spent in a long while. I've got a new job now out here in the boonies of WV, but I'm still (unfortunately) stuck with the parents. All I've got unpacked are my Game Systems and TV - everything else is in storage.

I will be grabbing some B&W 685s for the rears and an HTM61 for the Center Channel next time I'm in Pitt, though; they'll just sit with my Dad's Yamaha RX-V1400 until my situation changes.

                                            WelshOne,

Hmmm. A bit surprised to hear the 1575 is clipping, and the center channel is not even there yet. Do you play really loud? I assume all the settings are complete. If you have a sub, set your crossover at 80Hz. Also, set the speaker size to Small.

How old is the 1575? You might call your dealer and talk with them about this.

                                            Hope this helps.

                                              Hi Steve,

Yes I am playing it loud, probably too loud? But the 600 series was not causing the amp to clip at those volumes, but then again the 605's were active bass, therefore only powering treble and mid, so not too labouring for the amp.

The speakers are set to large for music, small for HT, but crossed at 60hz.

I will try your suggestions. Its just the manual said something along the lines that large floorstanding speaker that are capable can be set to large? I assumed speakers such as the 803D and HTM3 would be suitable for 'large' settings?

I'll need to have a play further.

                                              Thanks :T

                                                  WelshOne,

From a 'Small vs. Large' perspective, the size of the speaker can be an indicator of bass capability. Large means that the speaker can reproduce all bass notes, and do them very well. This means to the 25-30Hz range. Most speakers, even ones as awesome as 803D's, will fall off as they go that low. That's were the sub comes in. So these are in fact SMALL (at least to me). Bass notes are the biggest effort for any amp.

My 802D's are set to SMALL and I use the very excellent Velodyne DD18 sub (calibrated to my room) for the low end. A very good arrangement.

Try SMALL and crossing over at both 60 and 80 HZ. See which you like best, from a sound and 'going into protection' perspective.

                                                  Hope this helps.

A nice system now. But a very good system in a dedicated room will be sweet. Looking forward to new room pictures.

Steve, thanks again. I wont need to ask you twice! :B

Ill set them to small and try various crossover settings. I admit it is loud when this is happening!

It was this potential clip problem and the HTM3S as a centre that's been the fly in the glass of champagne for me.

I hope this all works out and integrates and works well, as this package is just within reach and bit of a deal. A HTM2D as a centre would kill the deal in terms of overall cost.

I have this same combination across the front (803Ds, HTM3S) being driven by an Anthem D1/P5 combo. The frequency response of the 803Ds is good down to about 35Hz before it starts to drop off and I cover that range with a couple of PB13 Ultras. I think if you have to set the cross-overs for the 803Ds at 60 or 80Hz then depending on the slope of the filter, you will be limiting your 803Ds ability to perform to their capability. I drive my system to very high volumes (at least according to my wife) without any evidence of clipping or distortion, so maybe the Rotel is limiting you ability to drive to high volumes.

                                                          ops:

Ok, not a great way introduce myself to the 800 series, schoolboy error alert!!

After reading the 1575 manual, it states the most likely cause of the amp clipping is a wiring issue or overheating of the amp (which I doubt!)

                                                          It was wiring ops:

In my excitement I had one of the rear 805S out of phase, and the biwire cable for the front L main was not configured naturally to the speaker, i.e. wired opposingly, red terminal to high f, black to low f, and so on.

I also recalibrated with an SPL meter, thinking the levels should be the same as before with the 600 series, BIG MISTAKE! They were way out!

Recalibrated = WHOLE NEW SYSTEM, phew! :E

What a difference, now I am hearing so much more, nuances, detail, and im sure the bass is better too?

The volume levels I am listening too to test right now are way more than normal/comfortable, so im pretty sure if any higher the amp will clip, and rightly so.

Sorry if I worried any 1575 owners.

Perhaps I need to brush up on my basics hey?

                                                          Thanks

                                                          David

                                                            David,

I'm glad you figured it out, And that you are enjoying that great system.

I'm glad that you recalibrated. I'm not surprised that it made such a nice improvement.

The rear panel on Rotels multi-channel amps is usually quite cramped, and you have to watch the speaker plus/minus as they switch them. Glad you didn't break anything though.

And does the sound from the system improve once hooked into a nice Pre/Pro/AVR like that 15-series Rotel? I've found the DD streams from the 360 very hollow and harsh, particularly for music playback/streaming.

I'll give the 360 a try if you like and let you know. Right now, I use the 360 for gaming and for watching HD shows through Media Center and that sounds decent for the most part.

I'd wager it could be the decoding or amplification from my Denon that's creating the hollow sounding track from the 360, but I won't know for sure until it's replaced. And yeah, I use my PS3 for music and movies primarily as well, since I have much more flexibility with playback and format options.
