It's been a while since I last posted here, so I thought that I'd pop in and say "Hi". Also to mention some changes. At the end of last year my family and I emigrated from Cape Town, South Africa and have settled in the beautiful town of Guildford in the UK. I gave up a separate hifi room plus a lounge in Cape Town and now have one combined lounge/entertainment room in Guildford. The time felt right for an upgrade and so I sold my 3 x 802D's and have invested in a pair of 803 D3's plus the HTM1 D3 centre.

      My previous setup:

      My new setup:

Am enjoying the new hemisphere, continent, country... and sound.

Good looking system (and I'm sure it sounds good too). So did you sell the speakers over in SA and then buy the new 'uns when you got here to the UK? I see most of the rest of the system made it over here so was wondering how you worked it as such...

            Thank you so much, Bill.

Even though I'm not here as often as I'd like to be... I still regard the htguide as 'home'.

            Best regards

              Thank you, Tom.

I tried to sell the 3 x 802D's in SA but the fish weren't biting so I sold them here in the UK without any problems. The voltage in SA is 220V and 240V in the UK... so I optimised the Evo 403e amp, the KAV-2250 amp and S-1200 processor for 240V before bringing them in. All the hifi equipment was boxed back in SA and then containerised together with the other household furniture. Spent 17 days at sea and thankfully arrived safely. Huge relief!

Hi ShadowZA or should we call you ShadowUK from now on or just Lucien ?

Nice system. Out of curiosity, what was the reason for moving from Cape Town to Guildford; family or work related or.. ?

It varies quite a lot here, ranging from around 220 to 250 depending where you are. Interesting article here on the voltage:

Thank you, jeepers. In a nutshell... better education and better future employment opportunities for the children. I'll stay ShadowZA for a while but you can call me Al... actually please don't call me Al (I'll call Paul Simon that). Lucien is fine too.

Thanks for the interesting article, Tom. In SA (220V) I was getting around 210V & sometimes even less.

Since everyone is posting pretty pictures, I thought it would be appropriate to show my current front speakers.

Magic and enveloping. It has depth, detail and balance.

Thats a lot of my dream gear right there (right now am running MC150, MC7205, MX132, and N804) but shouldn't there be more room treatments? Seems like the floor should have a very plush throw rug at least, get the center channel off of the flat table (b&w designed the box exterior as well as interior a certain way for a reason, right?) as well as wall treatments, etc? I know it looks really cool to have a nice bare and modern hardfloor, minimal crap on he walls, etc, but ideally you actually want a room with a bunch of cluttered crap all over, 1960s shag carpet, cloth and drapes on the walls, bookcases filled with old books of various sizes, etc, etc...

Right now I am using a Rotel rmb1585 for the 5 main speakers, and the marantz sr6010 to drive the ceiling speakers. Plus there's a svs pb16 in the corner.

I'm debating on what pre amp to get.
Marantz 7704 when it comes out.
Marantz 8804 when it comes out.
                                                Anthem avm60.
                                                Arcam 860.

I like the idea of the new marantz units because I really miss the volume bar and osd when playing 4k hdr blue rays or anything from the xbox one s. The new marantz models should allow 4k hdr with the volume bar.

This build was a pita. The equipment is upstairs in a closet 70ft away from the front speakers and the only thing I have downstairs is the tv and xbox. We cut a channel in the ceiling and walls and ran all new wires.

The existing wires were all 16ga speaker wires for 5 speakers. The new 9 speaker wires are all Belden 5002up 12/4 speaker wires, 4 cat 6 behind the tv, optical cable behind the tv, and 4 monoprice slimrun hdr hdmi cables behind the tv (directional cables with 2 going in each direction). Plus I left an access panel in the pantry ceiling where the wires come down with a 25ft audyssey mono extension cable so I could do a calibration without using 3.5mm over cat5 like I used to.

I was using hdbaset for HDMI, but it's not really ready for 4k@60hz 4:4:4 and hdr. The monoprice hdmi cables can do that (18gbps).

Thanks. The 804d3 sound great. The 803 I thought would be too much or too harsh for my room.

Why not use the Rotel instead of the classe?

Well, Rotel serve no justice to these diamond mannn. Diamond just like the girl, if you treat them best they give you whole lot back.
