I am curious, how can I calculate the amount of travel needed by a speaker cone/piston of a certain geometry to output a given SPL at a given frequency?
In other words, I have the geometry of a speaker cone (and distance to be measured from, 1m), I just want to figure out far it has to...

A new design: Bob's B3 project
It's been a while since we had a new project on the board, so if you don't mind, I would like to show you the speakers I've been working on for the past two years. I call it simply the B3 project. I took these to DIY Atlanta unfinished in summer 2009 and they were well received, tying for first in the...

Raal Omni Discussion
I don't know, CJ, if you go "omni", you need to go all the way- something like what Raal was showing at RMAF this year- a small speaker, you could still use the Exodus 6-1/2 on the bottom end- but you'll need to pick a solid midrange unit, maybe something like the Fountek.
That...- Bottom

Modula MT-XE - You didn't ask for it... it's coming anyway
Just a New Year's Eve teaser- at least the last of the crossover parts (cross fingers) "hit the dock" yesterday, plus those for the TMM version.
Well, here I am today doing all kinds of responsible stuff like cleaning and organizing, instead of working on speakers, so the devil...- Bottom

Can't decide: 5" in optimal box size OR 6.5-7" in smaller than optimal box size?
I'm desigining a pair of 2-way speakers for my wife. For the tweeter, that's still up in the air but I do love these Usher 9950's and feel they're worth the money. I just haven't thought out the crossover design for them with whatever woofer I end up choosing. I'm pretty sure I'll keep the 9950's in...- Bottom

The Aethers: budget Dipoles from Iowa DIY 2007
If anyone's interested in more details about this design (which somehow managed to beat out some fantastic budget designs at Iowa 2007), the writeup is finished. You can find it here:

The Miniliths: A project based on the Seas CA21REX, Neo8 PDR & Neo3 PDR
So, I had a couple of weeks to start some work on my Neo-based project. Since I already have a pair of Monoliths (my last project), and I'm considering building the Megaliths (an MTMWW tower), I thought the Miniliths name would fit within the "series".
Anyway, as always, here...- Bottom

New 3-way coming up.
I've got the Accuton C79s coming Monday. Just ordered the Aurasound 10" woofers, so they should be here next Wednesday. Hopefully they are in stock. Will use the MHT12 by Visaton for duties around 3-3.5K on up. Really like that tweeter.
My last effort with 8955a woofer, eton 4-300,...- Bottom

Entertainment Center
I'm afraid that I'm halfway though my latest project to build an entertainment center, and I'm needing to reach out and ask for suggestions.
My design is really simple. I have cut three horizontal shelves, and drilled some 1/2" dia holes for the supports. For vertical support,...- Bottom

Dayton DA175 design thread
Okay all you who got drivers from Pmazz, let's discuss what to build with these things. I am getting two, and I want to build either an MTM center or two MT bookshelves. Any other ideas are welcome. Since I haven't found any speaker designs using this driver, except a couple with multiple drivers...- Bottom
