Particle accelerator software restores classic audio

Physicists have adapted the algorithms they are using to sift data from accelerator runs (hunting for the Higgs boson) to cleaning up old audio recordings for the Library of Congress.

    The story here.

A before and after comparison here.

Now that's a really interesting "out of the box" application of leading edge technology. I wonder if it will ever be cost effective enough to clean up less valuable music? Say, something like a Def Leppard CD? That's just an example, but no joke here - I'm serious.

        Particle Board(I know, I know...)
        by Heli-Tim
While I'm sure that this is frowned upon in the DIY community, I know that a lot of manufacturers (most?) use particle board for speaker cabinets/bracing(I don't mean MDF). I personally like working with real wood products significantly better, but am seriously considering particle board for its light...

        Hey all.
I'm getting close to building some speakers for my dedicated HT, have been lurking, and learning. I will be replacing my 20 year old hand me down Fishers (suck) and my ten year old Klipsch (don't snicker - the bill for two Klipsch ss-1s, and an sc-1and one KSW-12, a new Denon AVR2800...

dealing with modal resonances in midrange transmission lines
        by thadman
I feel modal resonances in midrange enclosures are significant enough to warrant thorough examination as to alternatives to a traditional sealed midrange, but am currently not interested in a dipole or cardiod dispersion pattern. For a traditional sealed enclosure, the largest internal dimension would...
