    Beats Audio

So I've done a little searching, and I'm really curious, without all the marketing hype and stuff, what exactly Beats Audio is. It's on my phone, and I do notice a difference, but some claim it's just an equalizer, some claim there's legit hardware differences, anyone have a "audiophile" answer for this?

It's just an equalizer, my phone is the HTC Sensation 4G, there was a Sensation XL or something that came with beats audio and a faster cpu and was red/black. Well via custom roms I have flashed my phone with the same firmware and it runs exactly as it does on the other version that came with it standard, same with the CPU it is clocked higher and runs no problem. The hardware is the same it's just an equalizer setting. I've heard some phones have a discrete headphone amp in them but I kind of doubt it.

Well not knowing and doubts aren't what I'm really looking for

How is an equalizer setting done in hardware? I guess I'm not following you.

From searching around online it seems there's different aspects to it, where there's hardware and software differences, I'm just trying to nail down exactly what those are. My phone has it, whatever that means, and I do notice a difference in audio whenever you turn it on/off, but obviously if there's hardware differences you're not turning those on and off, or getting them via a ROM swap.

I realize it's for sure a branded/gimmicky thing but I'm just curious if there's more to it.

Well I guess I'll stop giving my input and experience in your threads. Seems every time I do it's not what you're looking for. As I said I was able to add it to my phone and it sounds different sure, but there were no hardware changes from the 2 versions of my phone, one that has beats audio, the other version which is the one I have which does not have it.

Sorry Dougie. I appreciate your inputs whenever you bring facts to the table.

I agree that a software equalizer is part of the Beats Audio setup but wondering if there is also real, tangible hardware benefits. It seems difficult to find that information, hence the thread.

I haven't seen any proof there are hardware differences. Only suggestions really, I think the only people that could answer definitively is likely someone from HTC.

Dougie's right, it's a software equalizer, nothing more... so you are basically changing the sound (if you're an audio purist).

This will give you Beats audio on any (rooted) Android product.

They sure go on and on about the headphones too. I'm really skeptical about any of it, just weird how there's not much real data on it as far as specs.

Well the Headphones leave a lot more to be designed then the phones. I've heard the headphones aren't bad but they are really bass heavy.

Hence the name "Beats"......I prefer headphones that produce a natural, neutral bass response and of course, clear, well defined vocals.

Then Beats are not for you. There's definitely a curve on the low end. The mid and highs are good, nothing spectacular, I'd say as good as Bose or well.... as good as Monster can produce. hee hee.

There's a lot better out there and not much more than a lot of the Beats headphones.

Adding An Equalizer to My Rotel System
                          by frank1203
Whats the easier way for a novice like me to set up / add an equalizer to my system? I have the RSX-1056 Receiver and the RMB-1075 Amp. I am bi-amping 2 front Paradigm Studio 100's to the 1075 and powering the CC-570 Center speaker. The 1056 is powering the two rears. Mostly everything is wired using...

I have a true need for a automatic room correcting parametric equalizer if such a beast exists. Let me explain. I live in a condo which is built with the "Great Room" concept. The Living room, dining, entry area is all one big room with celings that run to a very high peak of 30' (and provide...

I have been talking about my B&W 685s being alittle bright in the vocal area when on mid/high volumes. So which bars do i need to play with, I have played with some but TBH i dont really know what am doing, So i did play with the equalizer but i seem to get the treble down to much so it sounds alittle...

I have spoken with Behringer and they have shown serious interest in designing a replacement for the BFD that is more suited to the consumer market. As many of you may already know... the DSP1124 has been discontinued. The replacement FBQ2496 only offers 1 preset and still doesn't get us many of the...

Receivers with at least a 3-band equalizer?
                          by selection7
I'm looking for a stereo reciever capable of outputting and inputting 5.1 digital audio that has at least a 3-band equalizer. Apparantly equalizers are out of vogue these days and we can't be trusted to set things how we like, we need presets. Anyway, I also want it to be able to indepedently control...
