It is funny because it is true-to-life. A while back, a neighbor wanted some advice about buying home theater speakers and asked what kind I have. When I said I have Magnepan speakers all around, he asked "are those as good as Bose?". Of course we all know that the answer depends on whether you want to listen to music or to put potted plants on top of them.

Seriously, I have owned a pair of 501s since 1980. I bought them really cheap when an audio store was going out of business. They sound as good today as when I bought them. I only use them for 2 channel music listening in a spare room in the house. But I'd be the first to admit that Bose are over-hyped and over priced and would never have bought them if not for the circumstances at the time.
