If Doug ( HT Guide owner ) was still making Cat Cables I'd say look no further. Otherwise, I'm sure you can do a Google search and come up with plenty of cable options.

After you have the 55 up and running, why not start a separate " owners " thread on it. I'm sure many here will be interested and want to participate.

I own the BD30 and love it. Good luck with the 55.

You guys are so lucky out there. We still don't have stock of the 550. "Perhaps" end of November. 20days and counting.   Panasonic(SA) does not even know much about their own models.

Has Doug stopped making cables? I missed that.

Yeah but when he made the decision to close shop, he said he may take on the odd special request. I can say for certian that he makes a hell of a cable.

I fully concur with that. Got some Kingcat XLR's from him all the way here in South Africa and am very satisfied with my purchase. Also a digital cable as well.

Well, I finally caved. Ordered the BDP-S550 from SonyStyle, so that I could get the $150 credit using the Sony card (had 45 days to get the deal). Debated between the 350 and the 550 quite a bit (since I will initially be bitstreaming audio), but for the price I figured I'd go ahead and get the full-featured 550. Will be moving my existing BDP-S1 to the bedroom system. Can't wait to get the 550 hooked up and 'streaming DTS Master Audio...

I can't wait to get it hooked up and check it out. Currently showing expected delivery of Wednesday. I just received "The Hulk" from NetFlix which I'll use as my first DTS Master Audio test track.

Finally. Will be getting my 550 this Friday. Hopefully will be able to hook it up on the weekend and at last see what my HD81 can offer. Will keep you posted.

Cool. I'm excited to get my S550 soon, too. Maybe even today if FedEx comes early...?

Taking a couple of days off over the Thanksgiving holiday; should be a good chance to get caught up on some movie watching. I've read that the remote commands from my existing BDP-S1 will work for the S550, so setup for me should be fairly quick...if it's true, I won't have to reprogram my Harmony remote.

Well, well...guess what arrived today, one day earlier than expected! Couldn't wait to hook it up. Got it installed and configured in no time. Based on what I've been reading on the forums I knew exactly what I needed to set to get the bitstreams going.

I have verified both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are both recognized on my Denon receiver, using Dave Matthews "Live at Radio City" and "Behind Enemy Lines", respectively. The sound from both is fantastic. I was getting TrueHD before from the BDP-S1, but DTS MA is something I've been missing. Several of the fly-over scenes and explosions from Behind Enemy Lines are unreal! I noticed that a bunch of my BDs have DTS MA, so it will be interesting to watch them all again with the BDP-S550.

BTW, the reduced load times and operational improvements over the BDP-S1 will definitely make the S550 easier to live with as well.

                                48hrs to go and counting!!

I will be running it via the analog outs into my lexicon MC8B. I now have to go and expand my meagre collection of BD's.

                                  SONY BDP-S550 Died

I am glad I bought my Sony BDP-S550 on Amazon as I can return it. I had this player for less than 30 days? The HDMi died on it yesterday??

I had the old BDP-S301 and it works fine so it is not the cable which is brand new?

Any one had this problem before with HDMi?

Yes I agree, I am very disappointed?

Amazon will refund my money since it was with in the 30 day period money back guaranty. Now I might wait until Oppo Blu Ray comes out and use my BDP-S301 for now:T

                                            Thanks,
                                            relieved to hear that.
Well hooked it up yesterday and wow, even my better half(who does not really comment on video and sound, except about how much it cost) went "that is so clear".
Watched Ratatouille and re enjoyed it.
Also watched Hancock(not Blu Ray), and was very impressed with the upscaling capabilities. Perhaps my Oppo 983 does edge it though in the upscaling side.
Am quite happy now and want to try it out with the high def audio formats.

I watched the blu-ray of The Hulk last night, and was amazed by the impact of the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. Definitely a good demo disc for both video and audio!

I am wondering why I don't see any picture quality difference between blu-ray and my old upconverted DVDs. For DVD, I have a Denon using SDI to pass the video to my Lumagen scaler which upconverts it to 1080I and sends it via RGBHV to my 73 inch mitsu TV (1080I is max for my TV). Now I have the Sony...

Hello all, long time lurker first time poster. Great forum!
