        Been there done that!

A lot of the "extreme" high-end Japanese gear LOOKS wonderful, but is sonically disappointing, I'm not sure why.

When Jon and I owned "The Boulder Sound Gallery", we were able to audition TONS of this "designer audio jewelry". Unfortunately most of the time it wasn't as good as most of the lesser priced high-end American gear. Meaning stuff like Levinson, Krell, Wadia, Jeff Roland Design, etc, etc.

There are some smaller Japanese companies like Stax, Audio Note, etc, that DO make gear that has astounding sound.

It's alway been curious that the huge companies can't make gear that sounds as good as the much smaller narrowly focused companies. Perhaps the "designed by committee" factor is the real issue

I was just going to say, for recievers Denon makes nice stuff, but when it comes to seperates I don't know of any large japanese companies that come close to any of the american/ british companies...large of small...even at $40.000...but, they do look sweet. Just not 40 grand sweet

I've actually seen these before. I saw the entire pictured system at a dotcom's house in Austin. He was a huge Denon before making it big, and had to own the set when his ship came in. He built a room around them separate from his house and ran them with a set of Sonus Faber Amati Homage's. Also had some grand sub; the name of which is lost to me. It sounded wonderful at the time. But I have little to compare it with being that I exist many pay levels down the foodchain. Must be nice.

I have the opportunity to try out a Denon AVR-3805 for a few days. I'll be posting my impressions here.

The 3805 is loaded. It supports all the latest surround formats, including Dolby ProLogic IIx, DTS ES Discrete/Matrix, DTS 96/24, DTS NEO:6, Dolby...

Denon DVD-5900... new king in town!
              by LEVESQUE
Just finishing playing for my new 5900 for 6 hours. All I can say is wow!

This thing is so HUGE it's even bigger in size then my Bryston 4BSST! Prepare your rack for a big piece of equipment, maybe 50% bigger then my Denon DVD-3800.

Nice box, with a Denon link cable and...

              Denon dvd-2200 Review
              by Mats
              Folks,

What better tonic on a Friday (and a snowy one at that....) than to be forced to sit at home and play with my new Christmas present, the delightful Denon 2200. This review is going to be audio-based; for hi-res, cd layer and dvd playback.

              First off, this unit is...

My comparision of RSP 1098 to Denon AVC A1SE+ (AVR5803) (long)
              by Ossi
So the last 2 days I have been listening intensively to the RSP 1098 and my “old” Denon AVC A1SE+ which is more known as AVR 5800+ (with upgrade) in the US.
This comparison does only represent personal view of both units side by side. However I thought it might be interesting to let you guys...

              Cambridge Audio Azur 640C, wow
              by Orange Peel
I ordered one of these in silver for my system, and it arrived today so I gave it a work out. I put in some regular CD's that I am used to listening to on my Denon DVD 1600, but none of them really impressed me with the Denon, I always thought there was something missing. Well that is no longer an...
