Question: I watch SD DVDs on a 42" 1080p display. what type of player offer better upconversion (will show best), an SD upcoverting player via HDMI (Oppo 981) or an HD player (Toshiba HD-XA2)? At half the price, the oppo seems the obvious choice, but what am I missing here? thanks for the input.

Just bought an Oppo DVD 981HD player. I hooked video/audio to TV with HDMI cable, and digital coax audio to my pre/pro.(Emotiva LMC-1 by the way). I am noticing a delay between the audio and video picture. It is slight, but was not there with my last Denon DVD player. I can percieve the delay both... -
Well folks, my Oppo dvd player has crapped out once again. I was watching dvd episodes of "The Mentalist" last night and when the last episode was done.....poof!!. The display started showing what looks like Egyptian writing gobbly goop. Won't play and cannot even pop the tray to get the dvd... -

Hey here is my issue, the OppO dvd player has a bunch of settings for wide not so wide and whatever else... my SP5000 also has similar settings 16:9 4:3 letterbox.... I mostly watch widescreen dvds, any thoughts on what the settings should be?
