    monoblock vs. non monoblocks

What makes monoblocks so much more sought after than a non monoblock amplifier? Even when a non monoblock amp outpowers a monoblock amp from the same manufacture, what makes the monoblock a "better" amp?

The same things that make a seperate mulitichannel amp better than a reciever. Seperate power supplies, less interference between components, generally beefier and/or higher quality components etc.

thats right usually yielding better better separation, imaging and detial. that said some very nice steeo power amps s well. keep in mind too there are many that are actually fully dual mono under the skin anyways so for all intensive purposes like having mono-blocs.

best nto to genralise with these things. best to demo options and let yoru ears decide to whats best.

          Prototype monoblock (NC500OEM/Converter board/SMPS1200)

OK, not going to repeat it all here - but as you all know I'm building two protoyp monoblocks to test the most basic setup possible with the NC500OEM modules - and at the same time get myself a couple of monoblocks to complete my audio/HT setup.

I find that there is a lot of very small...

Added two more Parasound amps....now I have 5 "monoblocks"
          by Ricky
          I just picked up a Parasound 806 80x6 (bridgeable to 240) and a 1201A 150x1 monoblock.

          Amp Configuration BEFORE:
Two Parasound 2200II dual-mono 250x2 amps drive NHT mains, center, and one sub. A plate amp rated at 100wpc drives the other sub. A Fosgate 4100 60x4 drives my sides...

          802Ds and Classe Monoblock Indecision
          by xk8boy
i have an opportunity to, if i wanted, to buy a pair of monoblocks for my 802D. Right now they're driven by the classe's CA-5200 multichannel amp. Dont get me wrong there's nothing wrong with this 200W beast of an amp and I loving it - which is the reason why I'm so undecided.

          I would...

          B&W MPA-1 Monoblocks
          by drsiebling
Despite the fact that this is a forum for B&W speakers, I thought I would check to see if any of you have any experience with the B&W MPA-1 Monoblock amps. There is scarcely any information on the net regarding these beasts, but they did seem to get a favorable review from Stereophile. I believe...

          by brunsje
I am considering purchasing 3 Emotiva XPA-1 Monoblocks for my system.

          Your feedback would be appreciated.

I have 802D and HTM2D on my front channels.

          Thanks, JohnnyB
